Susquehanna Valley EMS Advanced EMT in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

An Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) functions as a primary care provider in the pre-hospital setting and is responsible for all aspects of care provided to the sick and injured in accordance with departmental guidelines and Act 37.

The AEMT will only provide care under the AEMT protocols and Scope of Practice while functioning directly under the supervision of a higher level provider (Paramedic or PHRN).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Function as a member of a MICU team providing efficient and prompt care in a calm manner in accordance with training standards set forth by the National Education Standards, PA DOH and unit medical director.• Operate emergency vehicles in a safe manner adhering to department guidelines and PA vehicle code.• Inspect all EMS equipment at start of shift to insure presence and function.• Inspect assigned EMS vehicle to insure cleanliness and good working order.• Adhere to all SVEMS policies and procedures.• Adhere to all EHSF and Department of Health regulations and standards.• Complete all trip sheets and paperwork within a 72-hour time frame maintaining the highest of standards and patient confidentiality.• Complete non-emergency and emergency transports as required in a prompt safe and efficient manner.• Maintain an effective and courteous working relationship with peers, area hospital personnel, patients and management staff.• Completion of all daily station duties as assigned.• Attend all required meetings.• Continually attend training functions to maintain and upgrade skills.• Restocks unit and equipment as necessary.• Other assigned job related functions as deemed necessary

Qualifications and Requirements:• Current PA Advanced Emergency Medical Technician• Current CPR• Current ACLS• EVOC Certification• Haz Mat Awareness course (by end of training period)• Eligible to receive medical command• Valid Driver’s license• Compliance to Act 37 and pursuant rules and regulations

Physical Demands:

In a normal workday, the employee must be able to:• Stand 1-4 hours• Sit 4-6 hours• Walk 4-6 hours• Drive 4-6 hours• Lift/carry 75 lbs. maximum; frequently lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

The employee must be able to use his/her upper extremities for repetitive:• Simple Grasping• Pushing/Pulling• Fine Manipulation

The employee must be able to:• Continuously bend at the waist, and squat at the knees• Frequently climb, reach above shoulders, and kneel• Occasionally crawl and use feet (foot controls)

Mental Effort:• High concentration/intensity• Normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information• High complexity of decision making• High time pressure of decision making

Communication:• Normal verbal communication - Must be able to proficiently speak English• Normal written communication - Must be able to proficiently read and write English

Work Environment:The work environment may include some or all of the following:• Inside and outside environment• Repetitive activities (performance of the same physically demanding activity)• Dirty environment (situations in which workers or their clothing can become dirty,greasy, etc)• Air contamination (dust, fumes, toxic odors, etc)• May come in contact with hazardous materials• Various work sites required for this position.• High exposure to weather and temperature extremes.• Moderate amount of overtime or extended work hours required.
