JOB OBJECTIVE: The Journeyman Polyphase Meterman will as directed, be responsible for the testing, installation, repairing, programming and data retrieval of all cooperative metering equipment, including Power Quality measurements. Will work with and around energized equipment of all voltages.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain all metering records and reports.
  • Responsible for the testing, installation, repairing, programming and data retrieval of all cooperative metering equipment, including Power Quality measurements.
  • Responsible for the repair and testing of instrument transformers and demand meters for large power metering and will perform wiring on customers premises as necessary.
  • Responsible for the installation of all aspects of primary metering installations.
  • Responsible for keeping familiar with first aid and protective equipment. Has a Safety Manual and knows the contents thereof. Must always be alert to possible hazards on the job.
  • Responsible for proper use, care, handling and accounting of all materials, equipment, and vehicles assigned to the meter shop and to the accuracy of all reports as to the use of such materials, and the proper inventory of all materials.
  • Responsible for knowing and keeping currently informed with respect to policies, procedures, specifications, codes, technician data, or other similar matters relating to his/her assigned duties and for clearly and accurately interpreting the same to other personnel in the meter shop.
  • Install, maintain, and repairs supervisory control system metering components in coordination with Lead Communications Electronics Technician.

DUTIES PERFORMED REGULARLY

  • Prepare accurate, concise, neat and legible reports as required.
  • Prepare material requisitions and maintain inventory control.
  • Accept call out duty for emergency calls after regular working hours.
  • Attend classes and training programs as required.
  • At all times employ tact and diplomacy when in direct contact with owner/members and the public in general.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal Education

  • High School education (or equivalent).

Previous Job Experience/ Requirements

  • Must have completed a formal four (4) year Journeyman Polyphase Meterman Apprenticeship program.

Required Special Skills

  • A thorough knowledge of all meters, equipment, and apparatus and the application of such.
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of applicable safety rules, regulations, and practices.
  • A willingness and ability to work with other NEC employees and departments and serve on various committees, if appointed to such.
  • A thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and its application to metering and associated problems.
  • The ability to read and understand plans, blueprints, and sketches of electrical apparatus.
  • Have knowledge of National Electric Code and other pertinent codes.
  • Be able to perform the following spreadsheet operations on a computer without assistance:
  • Create a work sheet using the basic commands (Work sheet, Range, Copy, Move, File, Print) and add, subtract, multiplying, and dividing combinations of data.
  • Modify a work sheet by entering additional data, renaming ranges, creating relationship using basic formulas (eg. \@sum, \@avg, \@count, \@if, \@round).
  • Create and print graphs from the above work sheet.
  • Create and use simple Macros.
  • Be able to consult and learn from standard program documentation in order to continually improve operational skills in the use of a computerized spreadsheet.
  • Be able to perform the following word processing operations without assistance:
  • Create a document, name, save, and retrieve files.
  • Use the replace, search, flush right, tab align, center, font, format, spell check, and underline commands.
  • Print documents.
  • Define and modify a Macro.
  • Be able to research and learn from the standard documentation of a program in order to continually develop operational skills in word processing.
  • Have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona drivers license within 30 days of employment.
