American Battery Solutions has a full-time opening for a Battery Electrical Engineer in Lake Orion, Michigan. Job Summary The Battery Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and execution of core battery electrical system components and assemblies. They are responsible for defining, documenting, designing, and releasing critical electrical systems and interfaces within the battery pack, including cell interconnections, sensing circuitry, and high voltage/high current interfaces and overseeing validation of those components and assemblies. The Battery Electrical Engineer is comfortable applying technical knowledge to innovative designs, driving resolution of challenges, and taking ownership of new product development activities. Responsibilities * Apply technical knowledge to the on-time delivery of work products through the product development life cycle for each project. * Own the design & development of efficient designs for components & sub-assemblies. * Work products: * Design and release High Voltage (HV) circuit layout with end goal of providing input for design of wire harnesses, contactors, and fuses. * Develop grounding strategy. * Develop and release specifications for Contactors, Fuses, Resistors, and Cabling. * Provide component level Design Verification Plan and Report (DVPR) and timelines. * Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop processes and tools that support manufacturing and assembly. * Component definition, sizing, selection, and design of cell electrical interconnections and bussing, module and pack high current and high voltage electrical interconnections and bussing, fusing, sensing, and control circuitry. * Commodity responsible engineer for Battery Management System (BMS) Hardware and interfaces to relevant battery subsystems. * Work closely with Systems Engineers and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Engineers to prove out design concepts prior to pack prototype builds. * Act as a mentor and advisor to Design Release Engineers (DREs) on the team. * Key contributor to electrical system Design/Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEAs/PFMEAs), DVP&Rs, and Product & Process design reviews. * Support the resolution of quality issues by applying formal problem-solving approaches including 8D and 5 Whys. * Lead supplier evaluation and development for assigned commodities in collaboration with the purchasing department. * Support prototype system builds by ensuring timely delivery of parts and promptly addressing any issues that arise. * Adhere to federal and state regulations. * Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures. * Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. * Predictable and reliable attendance. Position Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree. * Minimum of three (3) years of experience in high voltage (>350V) electrification product design or product development. * Proficient in root cause analysis and resolution. * Adept in data processing and statistical analysis. * Effective communicator, able to present complex technical data clearly to internal and external customers, and effectively engage with suppliers. * Experience with Printed Circuited Board Assembly (PCBA HW)/ Electronic Control Unit (ECU) development and troubleshooting, BMS specific experience preferred. * Demonstrated understanding of the operating principles and software functions of ECU(s), enabling effective collaboration with Systems and Software Engineering counterparts. * Experienced in the design, handling, and manufacturing of high voltage lithium-ion battery systems. * Knowledge of Electromagnetic Compatibility/Electromagnetic Interference (EMC/EMI) design standards and ability to interpret and troubleshoot test results. * Educated on common automotive & industry standards. * Familiar with the product design process. * Self-driven problem solver with a strong attention to detail. * Challenges the status quo
