Wastewater Maintenance Worker

Job Duties and Requirements

Job duties include but are not limited to the following.

  • Operating equipment safely including but not limited to tractors, mowers, snow plowing equipment, sewer trailer jet machine, Vactor/VacCon type sewer cleaning truck and a variety of other equipment.
  • Routine maintenance of all the Authority's properties, buildings, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Flow monitoring, sampling, testing, data collection, monthly monitoring reports and meter reading.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to drive all types of vehicles.
  • Class B CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hiring.
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Experience in utility maintenance and/or construction trades.
  • Ideal candidate would Possess a valid Michigan Wastewater Operator Certification or will obtain this Certification after one year of employment.

The employee for this position must also understand and be willing to work after normal hours, nights, weekends and holidays, The employee will also be "on call" and carry a cell phone that receives email and text messages. This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. A pre-employment drug and alcohol test is a requirement.

A pre-employment physical will be needed.

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include:

  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • The ability to adjust focus. Night vision and vision in inclement weather.

Work Environment

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essentials function of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and could be exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold, wet or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works in confined spaces, possession of MIOSHA confined space training certification or ability to obtain the certification is required. The employee often works in high traffic areas. The noise level in the environment is usually loud (heavy traffic, construction equipment, sewer cleaning equipment, generators) and occasionally very loud.
  • All employees must perform all work in a safe workman like manner and follow all MIOSHA and Torch Lake Area Sewage Authority rules and regulations, whichever provides a higher level of safety to employees.
