Trustmark Senior Director, Legal Operations in Lake Forest, Illinois

Oversees the operations of the Law Department (Legal, Compliance and Government Relations), including budgeting, vendor and outside counsel management, technology utilization and learning and development.

Operational Efficiency:

  • Build and enhance current internal team processes, tools, and platforms.

  • Create structure and strategic dashboard solutions to report and track key operational metrics for enhanced decision-making.

  • Build and communicate internal knowledge management processes.

  • Oversee organization of corporate legal documents, and document management systems.

Finance, Budget Management and Billing:

  • Build, track, and monitor internal legal department spend and monitor outside counsel and other vendor spend.

  • Analyze outside counsel spend to create efficiencies and value for the Department.

  • Prepare financial and operational analytics reports.

  • Assist Senior Leaders of the Law Department in the strategic planning process and annual planning, including financial budgeting, headcount planning, and monitoring of expenditures and disbursements.

  • Analyze outside counsel billing practices to manage spend and ensure compliance with Department guidelines and provide solutions for best-in-class guidelines.

Innovation and Technology Solutions:

  • Oversee the technology utilized by the Department for providing legal and compliance services to the enterprise.

  • Manage the process of new technology vendor selection to optimize efficiency in the Department.

  • Provide solutions to identify strategies for increasing value to the enterprise, reducing low value work, and optimizing outside legal spend.

Learning and Development:

  • Oversee and track learning and development initiatives for the Department.

  • Liaise with Department’s Human Resources partner on enterprise initiatives.

  • Facilitate learning programs for licensed attorneys as part of continuing legal education.

  • Manage the Department’s external industry groups.

  • Represent the Law Department and act as a point of contact for operational issues.

  • Keep abreast of legal operations industry trends and best practices and advise on needed upgrades and improvements to business processes and tools.

  • Other duties as needed/assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 5 years operations experience and/or project management experience

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills

  • Ability to benchmark, leverage industry best practices and implement department metrics and reporting

  • Ability to build and enhance Department team tools and platforms,

  • Experience with budgeting for projects, teams or departments Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office tools (excel, powerpoint)

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a law firm/corporate law department

  • Experience with technology solutions and platforms

  • Experience with vendor selection processes
