Trustmark Executive Director, Workday Technical Accounting in Lake Forest, Illinois

The Executive Director, directs, oversees, and leads all aspects of technical accounting and supports the team and company in Workday Financials systems-related initiatives. This includes serving as the subject matter expert between Corporate Finance, IT, and the Business units. Understands the underlying accounting transactions in our multiple subsidiary systems, lends expertise in developing and approving the accounting for new transactions, and testing of the subsidiary’s system interface file to the general ledger. Responsible for supporting the maintenance and enhancement of all Workday Financial applications (Accounting, Adaptive, Suppliers, Expenses, Procurement, Customers, Billing, and Projects) and partners with business stakeholders and respective subject matter experts of Finance to identify and resolve system issues and pursue opportunities for increased efficiency. Serves as the main contact regarding enhancement, support, training, issue-resolution and will handle end-to-end life cycles for these initiatives including requirements gathering, analysis, design, configuration, and testing. Responsible for reporting tools to support strong internal controls (especially segregation of duties) and ultimately to provide the correct ledger balances in the preparation of timely and materially accurate financial statements to internal and external customers.

Acts as a liaison (subject matter expert) between Corporate Finance, IT, and the business units:

  • Understands the underlying accounting transactions in source system.

  • Effectively communicates accounting guidance and/or internal control requirements to business partners.

  • Collaborates with business partner to “think outside the box” in creating/changing accounting flows and or internal controls (constraints in underlying system and/or business unit resource).

  • Reviews and approves business partner’s test plans and interfaced accounting transactions to general ledger.

  • Collaborates with business partners across divisions regarding the prioritization of multiple projects.

  • Acts as project lead to create and develop business requirements and processes through collaboration with the business unit financial subject matter experts for a potential new financial system.

Administrator of all Workday financial systems and reporting tools

  • Preparation of ledger for monthly processing; including adjusting calendars, generating reports, and account maintenance

  • Ensures that all transactions from all sources (system and manual) have processed into source ledgers and the balances have correctly interfaced into the financial reporting tool.

  • Performs pre-file financial reporting tool load reconciliation and analysis.

  • Reconciles and review allocation results, create and book into Workday the required intercompany entries. This requires a strong knowledge of the relationship between the business units’ lines of business and legal entities.

  • Ensures that nightly processes are complete, accurate and timely. Collaborate with IT to determine the cause of failure and resolution. Communicates with business partners if a new interface file needs to be provided. Available during non-business hours to answer questions and offer support.

  • Monitors, reviews, and tests Company’s manual financial system controls.

  • Uses knowledge of our Workday financial system set-up when a business need arises such as when creating new accounts or a new chart of accounts.

  • Provides technical stewardship and leadership for the operations of Trustmark's Core Workday Financials system and technical services, including Reporting, Foundation Data Model (FDM), General Ledger, and related integrations with financial admin systems.

  • Responsible for Workday Financials system changes associated with financial operations, acquisitions, divestitures, system upgrades, project deliveries, optimization efforts, analytics/reporting, and ongoing application support (which includes requirements-to-production processes).

  • Implements new system functionality as delivered by Workday and in response to Trustmark requirements; assists with the day-to-day oversight of the development and maintenance of the Workday Financials system and related integrations support to other systems. Leverages business knowledge to identify opportunities for process improvements.

Prepares, reviews, and analyzes various financial reports:

  • Annual State Pages for the three insurance companies, including reconciling generated pages to source ledger, actuarial imports, and various Annual Statement exhibits. Analyzes variances to determine if state pages are accurate.

  • Provides support for post-retirement, intercompany services and transactions, and allocations for statutory and audited financial statements.

  • Creates, reviews, and analyzes account reconciliations for reasonableness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Informational Systems or Actuarial Science

  • Minimum 7-10 years of related experience supporting and implementing financial system initiatives.

  • Functional knowledge in the application of technology to support, analyze, and improve accounting processes.

  • Must have a strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.

  • Must possess outstanding customer service skills, including timely responses, communication to business partner regarding prioritization of multiple projects/tasks, clear explanation of complex accounting and control issues, and the ability to help the business partner define their accounting and process requirements.
