As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). $2.00/hour Shift Differential Pay for all hours worked after 6:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m.
Engineering Technician 1 - Starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2- Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3- Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 4- Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from higher level engineering technicians by the focus on learning basic methods, techniques and procedures and by the presence of detailed instructions and close supervision.
Examples of Work
60% Assists the District Lab Engineer (Engineer 6) and/or Engineering Technician 7 (Supervisor) in the sampling and testing of construction materials for use in DOTD construction projects to ensure compliance with DOTD policies, procedures, and specifications. Performs materials testing such as asphalt materials acceptance and verification, subsurface soil surveys, shallow borings, base and surface course acceptance measurements and construction verification for both DOTD and FHWA Record Tests. Works with a soil boring crew in the collection and analysis of soil samples used to determine roadway type.
20% Attends required training classes and receives on-the-job training in performing materials sampling and/or testing. May also provide on-the-job training or assistance to newer or lower level technicians.
10% Assists the ET 7 with the materials quality assurance documentation program by maintaining an accurate and thorough inventory of all material samples. Keeps accurate notes of all testing conducted. Enters testing data into appropriate computer database and retrieves information and/or produces reports as necessary.
5% Assists in the proper maintenance of all testing equipment which includes routine calibration, maintenance and certification of sampling and testing equipment. May be required to certify asphalt plants, concrete plants, paving equipment and trucks.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including but not limited to Emergency/Disaster support activities.
