Defense Health Agency Operating Room Nursing Assistant in Lackland AFB, Texas

Summary About the Position: This position will be performing the duties of a Scrub Technician or Operating Room Technologist. Located at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center; Lackland AFB, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation This is an open continuous announcement. We accept applications on an ongoing basis; qualified applicants will be considered as vacancies become available Responsibilities Hand instruments to the surgeon during procedures by anticipating the surgeon's needs. Maintain alertness for complications developing during surgery such as hemorrhage, shock and cardiac arrest and immediately supplies instruments, drugs, and supplies to correct the condition. Take sponge, instrument, and sharp counts; measures blood and fluid loss. Select, assemble, and organize required supplies, equipment, and instruments for specific surgical procedures. Clean operating room after surgery, remove and dispose of soiled and/or contaminated materials; change linen; wash, disassemble, sterilize, and reassemble instruments. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) organizing equipment for surgical procedures; 2) assisting the surgical team during procedures in the operation room for multiple specialty services (such as general surgery, orthopedics, urology, etc,.); 3) performing sponge, instrument, and/or sharps counts for the duration of a surgical procedure; AND 4) conducting post-operative cleaning or replacement of surgical instrumentation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
