The Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction *program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a *Fees and Reporting Unit Specialist (Environmental Specialist 2)(In-Training)(4 year position) position.

We're looking for an environmental specialist to help the regulated community understand how the Dangerous Waste Rules and the hazardous waste generation fee apply to them.    In this role, you will be a member of an energetic team that's responsible for helping both:

  • Issue EPA/State Identification numbers to the dangerous waste regulated community. 
  • Support the collection and review of Dangerous Waste Annual Reports. 
  • Support Hazardous Waste Generation Fee collection activities.
  • Support the unit's public disclosure request work. 

      This position will:

  • Interact with the public, regulated community and regulators from all levels of federal and state government. 

  • Gain knowledge and experience regarding the protection of human health and the environment through the regulation of dangerous waste management and pollution prevention. 

Your priority will be helping businesses understand how the laws surrounding Dangerous Waste applies to them. This position is responsible for reviewing documentation submitted by businesses that are required to report under dangerous waste rules for accuracy and completeness.  You will also actively assist the Hazardous Waste Generation Fee Administrator in the collection of the Hazardous Waste Generation fee. This work includes helping businesses understand how and if the fee applies to them, how to pay their fee, and how to apply for a fee exemption if applicable.   Please Note: This is a permanent position that's funded until June 30, 2028. The Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction Program (HWTR) aims to protect Washington's residents and environment by reducing the use of toxic chemicals, safely managing dangerous waste, preventing new contaminated sites, and cleaning up contamination.   Note: *This position offers a career path and on-the-job training. This position allows you to progress through the *Environmental Specialist *field and achieve the goal class of an Environmental Specialist 2. Candidates will be considered at the *Environmental Specialist 1 *and the Environmental Specialist 2* levels, depending on their qualifications.
