Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$26.500 - $33.125 - $39.750

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

Ensures the processing and distribution of all instruments and supplies required for Pulmonary services. Provide a broad scope of support for the Pulmonary Department including customer service and clerical duties. Organize, maintain, and monitor the equipment and supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent

  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree

  • Training in health care environment with focus in Biomed or equipment maintenance.

  • Experience in acute care hospital.

Essential Functions

  • Financial SupportCommunicates financial issues and trends associated with equipment and supplies to management and/or other healthcare team members as appropriate.Works with the management team to find optimal, cost effective, high-quality equipment.Affects decreases in costs of supplies and equipment by seeking rebates and exchanges on used equipment when appropriate, while utilizing existing SPD protocols for rebates.Assists management with the capital equipment and equipment purchaser process. Collaborates with leadership and clinical staff in making decisions related to purchase of equipment.

  • Critical thinking Considers relevant facts, weighs alternatives and makes decisions logically in order to perform the job assignment efficiently and effectively.Reports all questionable matters to management on a timely basis.Be accessible to coworkers and customers to provide assistance and guidance with questions, concerns and problems.Prioritize shift functions, assign tasks and oversee the functions of coworkers.Promptly communicates with customers regarding any problems, delays or substitutions of needed supplies or equipment.Proactively contacts departmental management, as appropriate, to situations determined to be serious.

  • Equipment maintenance Develops, organizes, and maintains records related to equipment in all Pulmonary areas.Provides for appropriate turnaround time or replacement of equipment out of service or for repair and /or maintenance, following up as needed with other departments.Communicates with Pulmonary leadership and other members of the healthcare team to ensure that equipment repairs and maintenance are completed in a timely fashion.Provides expertise in the areas of equipment problem solving to avoid delays in patient care.Orients staff to new equipment and trouble shooting.Is receptive and cooperative with changes to processing equipment, maintaining and updating current competencies or creating new competencies.

  • Patient care supplies In collaboration with other departments and unit leadership team, provides for the establishment and maintenance of par levels of medication, equipment, and patient care supplies to support the clinical needs of the units.Continuously assess the need for minor/major equipment purchase, rental to provide for the clinical needs of the patients served.Coordinates in-services for staff and physicians relating to new equipment.

  • Quality assurance Displays accuracy, thoroughness, neatness, clarity, and a high level of work with a minimum need for checking and correcting.Understands and performs fundamental procedures of their jobs and displays competence in all areas of Pulmonary SPD.Demonstrates a working knowledge of decontamination and sterilization processes.Demonstrates a working knowledge of medical supplies and equipment.Inspects all instruments for proficiency and patient safety.Demonstrates working knowledge in the operation of all sterilizers.Prepares and completes accurate documentation for each load to include biological testing and documentation.Demonstrates working knowledge of aseptic techniques as evidenced by the appropriate handling and preparation of sterile supplies, proper packaging and tray makeup and the general handling of items processed.Demonstrates the ability to instruct/orient coworkers and other personnel in all phases of SP functions, policy and procedures.

  • Safety Demonstrates working knowledge of all Material Safety Data Sheets.Ability to instruct others in their use.Is familiar with the principals of TJC and OSHA requirements, to promote optimal occupational and patient safety.Insures compliance with all departmental safety rules to include strict adherence to standard precautions and required protective equipment for all employees.Assess the work environment for safety issues and reports findings. Identifies equipment/supply related educational needs for clinical staff to promote patient safety. Collaborates with manager to develop plan of action to resolve identified safety concerns. Assures all scope reprocessing logs are correct and up to date, collates data and reports to Infection Control Practitioner. Tracks all ventilators, and pasteurmatic logs. Ensures Pulmonary staff is compliant with necessary log data.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Charge tech skills preferred.

  • Knowledge of aseptic technique.

  • Prefer knowledge of decontamination and sterilization process for instrumentation and equipment.

  • Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others consistently.

  • Prefer skill, knowledge and manual abilities regarding electricity, pneumatics, and/or other mechanical devices/equipment’s used in the department.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.

  • Knowledge of medical gas and physical gas laws.
