Description of Position: The Trackman performs duties assigned in the daily inspection, remedial repair, and programmed improvement of track and structures. This includes the inspection and repair of the basic track components, such as the rail, fastenings, ties, and ballast. Also included are fences, bridges, culverts, road crossings and line crossings with other railroads. The Trackman works individually, or as a member of a section or gang to overcome defects or deviations from prescribed track standards in order to maintain a physical plant which will be safe for train operations and efficient with respect to available company resources. Principal Responsibilities: The Trackman will repair track and switch deviations in accordance with F.R.A. Track Safety Standards as directed by the Track Foreman. Trackmen will operate small machinery such as grinders, drills, saws, rail pullers and other machinery or equipment as needed. Trackmen will assist Track Foremen in case of derailments. Trackmen will report to work dressed accordingly, at assigned hours and work safely with other railroad employees. Trackmen will attend safety meetings and take instruction of safety rules on a daily basis from the Track Foremen. Trackmen will perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager, Track Inspector/Supervisor, and/or Manager - Track & Structures.
