Job Summary:

Trane Technologies has an exciting opportunity for an onsite position in our Engineering Test Laboratory (Lab) in La Crosse, Wisconsin as a Laboratory Fabrication Technician II. Your primary function in this position is to provide weld and fabrication support to the Laboratory by providing technical support in delivering prototype assemblies for the development of Trane Commercial Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) products. The job requires problem solving, troubleshooting, and collaboration with other lab and engineering team members to ensure timely completion of projects. This position is salaried non-exempt.

Responsibilities:

  • Work safely and maintain a safe work area in accordance with company policies and procedures

  • Provide fabrication, assembly, and testing of prototypes and product builds from raw materials to within close tolerances

  • Operate manual and computer-controlled fabrication equipment

  • Drive for continuous improvement in job performance and laboratory procedures

  • Ability to learn and cross train on new processes and equipment, with the ability to perform preventive maintenance on equipment

Qualifications:

  • Technical diploma in machine tool, welding, or fabrication, or AAS degree or journeyman status

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook) required, with desire to learn basic programming in Visual Basic is preferred

  • Basic CNC programming, CAD and/or CAM experience required

  • 5+ years work experience in related field

Key Competencies:

  • Good mechanical aptitude. Ability to operate power hand tools, band saw, drill press, grinder, tools common to fabrication etc. and work from lifts, scaffolds, and ladders

  • Demonstrates basic to advanced knowledge on measuring/inspection instruments and or mechanical and electrical components and their principles, properties, and theories

  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing techniques

  • Proficient understanding of schematics, reading, and interpreting engineering drawings, technical reports, safety rules, operation, and maintenance instructions

  • Ability to be licensed for material handling devices, and a wiliness to learn and grow technically

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to listen and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees in the organization

  • Ability to multitask while working efficiently in a fast-paced team environment

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, with organizational skills, able to build cross-functional partnership while understanding the importance of putting the customer first

Base pay for this position $50,000 to $70,000 annually.
