The Design for Manufacturing Engineer is a member of the manufacturing engineering team, but will coordinate work with the product design team to achieve project objectives. This engineer is responsible for vetting the DFM and continuous improvement manufacturing requests, completing research and project preparation, updating prints and designing components, and implementing the project with oversight from the design engineering team. Cross-functional responsibilities include technical support of production processes, such as machining, welding, fabrication, and assembly, related to the manufacturing of HVAC centrifugal chillers. This position is based out of our campus in La Crosse, WI and requires daily onsite presence.

Where is the work:

This position has been designated as onsite at our La Crosse, WI facility and is considered safety-sensitive.

What you will do:

  • Utilize production knowledge and mechanical engineering skills to support continuous improvement requests in a manufacturing environment to meet internal customer requirements.

  • Conduct qualification activities to ensure delivered design solutions meet required specifications per the requested modifications.

  • Analyzes, plans, implements, and improves manufacturing process documentation at the site level to optimize manufacturing.

  • Create and maintain records for new and updated products or processes, and support training of production associates.

  • Propose projects and provide technical leadership to achieve safety, quality, and productivity improvement goals.

  • Utilize a standardized problem-solving approach to troubleshoot product and process failures and develop root cause solutions to prevent reoccurrences.

  • Cooperate effectively with cross-functional individuals and teams to build consensus and achieve best-practice outcomes in continuous improvement manufacturing projects.

  • Manage projects from concept through validation including design analysis, performance calculations, detail drawings and bills of material.

  • Facilitate design reviews, execute testing validation plans, and use virtual tools to predict the outcome and performance of manufacturing improvement projects.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve best-practice outcomes in continuous improvement events.

  • Lead continuous improvement manufacturing projects from concept to implementation.

  • Create and maintain technical engineering documentation for internal customers and future engineering projects.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline is required.

  • Two (2) or more years of related work experience required (will consider co-ops and internships as experience).

  • Mechanical design and engineering skills, with practical hands-on manufacturing experience.

  • Ability to select proper modeling and simulation tools, understand outputs, and integrate information to make design decisions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

  • Knowledge of Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) fundamentals.

  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, project management and problem-solving skills.

  • Possess initiative to further develop technical skills, interpersonal skills and career path.

  • Strong work ethic, great attitude, customer-focused, team-oriented and results driven.

Compensation:

Base Pay Range: 80,000-110,000/annually

Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
