GE Vernova Lead Specialist EHS - Health and Safety in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Job Description Summary

You will be responsible for all the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) related matters in Grid Systems Integration (GSI) business in Malaysia, including High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Projects. You are required to develop and drive business’s EHS Management Plan, Emergency Response Plan representing the GSI business in Malaysia as the Environmental Health & Safety officer and for Scope of Works under the contract for Project & Services.

You are expected to interact with senior management within the Organization as well as customers’ organizations and consortium partners and contractors in order to facilitate safe & healthy work environment. You are required to represent the GSI Malaysia as a Security Lead by coordinating work with GE Security Director on all security matters pertaining to Malaysia.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Drive and lead EHS with the Operations team by providing Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) advice as well as interpret relevant Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) legislations, regulations and support for office and multiple Project and Services sites in GE GSI Malaysia to meet statutory and corporate objectives and responsibilities. You may be required to support projects on EHS in Countries/Business lines in CEAP Region, Grid Solutions when need arises.

  • Provide advisory, coaching, and mentoring support to project management and relevant employees. Assist with risk reviews, through providing subject matter expertise in Environmental, Health & Safety. Able to develop Emergency Response Plan(crisis management) and conduct exercises with the teams.

  • Lead and/or assist with incidents/accident investigations with the need of Regulatory reporting to the relevant authorities when required. Follow up with incident/accident close out and follow up actions taken.

  • To develop talent and able to manage/support and guide a team of Safety & Health officers (SHO) deployed at project sites.

  • Manage Company’s Certification on ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 System (GE Framework 3.0 in Gensuite).

  • Drive and manage EHS programs, set Objectives, KPIs and gather monthly EHS data for on time Monthly reporting.

  • Ensure all employees undergo relevant EHS training are performed/assigned to employees including Contractors/partners according to company policy and Legal requirements.

  • Plan for site EHS Audits on Projects and Services and conduct EHS Audits at Project sites according to Company set audit protocol.

  • Support Tendering team (ITO) on EHS requirements/review and comment on customer’s EHS requirements and advise on EHS budget calculations.

  • Work with Sourcing team in Contractor EHS Management on the selection/assessment and qualification process. Conduct Contractor audits and on-boardings and regulator Contractor EHS performance assessment.

  • Focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by internal standard functional practices and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree /Diploma in Engineering with discipline in Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical/Civil from an accredited University or College is preferred.

  • At least 8 years of practicing experience in the field of Environmental, Safety and Health industry

  • Must be Registered Safety And Health Officer (Green Book).

  • Having locally or internationally recognized professional EHS qualification.

  • Strong experience as EHS in Civil and Onshore construction Projects. Offshore experience would be an added advantage.

  • Conversant in the interpretation and application of Various International Standards for EHS

  • Role will be based in Malaysia.

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and make quick and sound decisions in emergency response situations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office applications (i.e. Excel, Words, Powerpoint etc.)
