Amazon Data Center Operations Technician in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia

Amazon Web Services (AWS) rapidly growing and is looking for a Data Center Technician to join our growing Infrastructure Operations team. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast-paced technology company and a data centre industry leader. This position will contribute to the overall availability and reliability of data centre operations in order to meet or exceed defined service levels. This position entails hardware and network diagnostics, physical repair, and participation in an on-call rotation. All candidates must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Prioritisation of work, organisational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly are all necessary for success. Candidates will install equipment, create documentation, innovate solutions, and solve problems in the Data Center Space in addition to hardware and network repair. This team works in a 24-hour-a-day environment. Candidates participate in the recruiting process and train new team members; review junior techs'/vendors' work for quality, completeness, and effectiveness; and, if necessary, participate in continuous improvement efforts to eliminate process inefficiencies.

Key job responsibilities

You remove customer constraints for IT Infrastructure capacity hosted in AWS Data Centers, engage in physical data center activities. This includes all tasks associated with rack deployment, rack cabling, hardware breakfix, software troubleshooting, and rack decommissioning.

These activities include the following:

Strong work ethics and works well in a team

Work in shifts to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts).

Experience using Linux and Windows systems

PC/Server hardware breakfix experience

Basic networking switching and routing experience

Cable copper and fiber experience

Experience with problem ticket tracking, prioritization, and escalation procedures

Experience or basic understanding of maintenance windows / change management systems - policy, process, and procedure

BA/BS in technical field or equivalent practical experience

Understand and follow Safety and Security policies in a workplace

Ability to lift and move 20 kg of equipment

Passionate about IT infrastructure and hardware

A day in the life

Data Center Operations Technician will be working in AWS data center and engage in physical activities related to data center operations. This includes all tasks associated with rack deployment, rack cabling, hardware breakfix, basic software troubleshooting, and rack decommissioning. This role require work in shifts to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts).

Basic Qualifications

  • PC/Server hardware knowledge and troubleshooting.

  • Linux knowledge

  • Basic fiber optic cables, standard services of TCP/IP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scripting skills – Bash/Python/Perl

  • Data center components awareness- rPDU, ATS,UPS, CRAC

  • Advance IT network related knowledge.
