Job Description

The Systems Engineer role combines an understanding of both engineering, innovation and management. A Systems Engineer works with engineering, production and sales departments to manage and develop current and future systems, assisting in providing solutions and critical reviews of proposed components.

The Systems Engineer provides an overview of the system components and subsystem to ensure that all the customer or project requirements are met in an effective and efficient manner. This requires the ability to conceptualize the big picture and have a holistic understanding of both the operational and scope aspects of projects under development.

They may also be called upon to assist the sales teams with feasibility studies and engineering sales support during discussions with customers, and possibly post-delivery customer support during the system handover.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with engineering team to ensure the main project specifications and requirements are understood and are being correctly addressed

  • Provide clear goals for all areas of a project and develop steps to oversee their timely execution

  • Be proactive about challenges or constraints within a project and seek to manage them accordingly

  • Provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions including materials, manpower and time necessary

  • Assist other department engineers in creating practical demonstrations of proposed solutions and demonstrating them to other members of the team

  • Work alongside project management teams to successfully monitor progress and implementation of initiatives

  • Establish milestones for necessary contributions from departments and develop processes to facilitate their collaboration

Typical qualifications

  • BSC or higher qualifications in engineering, robotics or mechatronics

  • Proven team building and team working skills

  • Experience with manufacturing processes and manufacturability

  • Ability to work together with teams from several departments to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan

  • Professional experience and a high-level understanding of working with various operating systems and their implications

  • Good spoken and written English skills

  • Practical mechanical and electrical skills

  • 3D printing and small-scale fabrication/prototyping

  • Boat handling
