Position Summary:

The Manager of Development is responsible for the oversight and administration of a comprehensive development program including major gifts, annual giving, and securing special event fundraising for the Office of Philanthropy of Covenant Health. This position will be the lead fundraising position for the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation (benefiting LeConte Medical Center) and will report to Covenant Health’s Vice President of Philanthropy.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the VP of Philanthropy and the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation board to create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization.

  • Implement the fund development plans in accordance with ethical fundraising principles and to achieve stated departmental fundraising goals.

  • Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved. Additionally monitor trends in the community or region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary.

  • Identify and develop corporate, community and individual prospects for the organization's fundraising priorities including major gift, annual giving, and securing special event fund raising.

  • Prepare regular progress reports on the achievement toward contacts made, major gifts secured and planned giving campaigns executed for the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation and other Covenant Health Foundations.

  • Provide oversight for the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation board meetings including setting agendas, providing speakers, reports to the boards and the recruitment of engaged board members committed to the Office of Philanthropy of Covenant Health’s mission.

  • Develop and maintain reports for informational control in the donor database and progress toward targets and goals for Covenant Health Foundations, which includes the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation, including the recording and acknowledgement of gifts.

  • Conduct donor acquisition initiatives to identify and cultivate persons and organizations supportive of Covenant Health and its mission.

  • Develop and gain approval for an annual income and expenditure budget for the fund development program.

  • Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization.

  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a Bachelor’s degree in a directly-related field from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of Philanthropic development experience (will consider two (2) to five (5) years of sales experience or other significant charitable or volunteer leadership involvement).
