Amazon Debug Test Engineer, RF, Project Kuiper in Kirkland, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead defect triage, root cause analysis and collect failure data to support debug efforts on Phased Array PCBAs.

  • Analyze test failures to ensure defects are fully understood and provide design recommendations for the product to increase performance, reliability, and yield.

  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and RF performance problems on the fly, working with an integrated cross-functional team of electrical, antenna, mechanical, software and manufacturing engineering teams.

  • Specify, procure and set up debug cell layouts for the production floor.

  • Write technical specifications for antenna troubleshooting from scratch.

  • Communicate non-conformances to quality engineering and PCBA suppliers.

  • Assist in training and hiring personnel (engineers and technicians) related to above phased array antenna test and debug development.

  • Must be willing to work off shifts and weekends as required.

About the team

As a Test Engineer at Project Kuiper, you will be directly responsible for testing and qualifying next generation spacecraft PCBAs. You will utilize innovative solutions and cutting-edge technology to solve difficult problems on a daily basis, at both a systems and specialized level. You will be a critical lynchpin between the production, development, electrical, RF, supply chain and quality teams, and lead production throughput on the assembly line as well as new product introduction. You will provide vital manufacturability input to the design and antenna engineering teams for both new and existing hardware. Finally, you will be responsible for standing up new processes, equipment, and assembly lines to support Kuiper’s aggressive build ramp, making data-driven decisions at each step in the process.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related Engineering field.

  • 3+ years of test and debug experience with antennas and/or electrical systems.

  • 3+ years of experience in the development of manufacturing systems and qualifying new processes for automotive, medical device or space hardware.

  • 3+ years of hands-on design, test, assembly and/or fabrication experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline.

  • IPC-A-610 certification or familiarity.

  • 1+ years of experience testing, troubleshooting, and debugging RF electronics.

  • 1+ years of experience working with environmental testing such as thermal, vibration, acoustic, shock, humidity, and climatic.

  • 1+ years of programming experience in Python, C#, C++, or MATLAB

  • Experience designing and/or manufacturing PCBAs

  • Experience transitioning complex products from R&D to high-volume manufacturing in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $93,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
