A Day in the Life

Medtronic Operations in Kerkrade is the manufacturing location for Medtronic in The Netherlands, specialized in the manufacturing assembly of medical devices, including customized perfusion packs used during surgical procedures, thereby serving more than 250,000 patients worldwide each year.

We are transforming towards a High-Performance Culture, promoting autonomous decisiveness and bold acting and driving Excellence in Operations. In line with this transformation, we are integrating our in-house value stream functions into one centrally-led department – Operations - while attracting new leadership talents.

The Senior Manager Operations role is an entrepreneurial role with the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the transformation of our organisation. You will develop and lead our Operations organization, while building a coherent team. You will drive operational excellence and boost performance, while leading continuous improvement projects, facilitate workshops and optimise alignment with our supporting functions such as Engineering, Operational Excellence, Environmental Health & Safety, Planning and Quality. You will report to the Site Leader and be part of the core leadership team. This is a fully on-site role based at our manufacturing operations site in Kerkrade, The Netherlands and requires a willingness to travel internationally (< 5%) to other Medtronic sites.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Build a successful value stream organization, directly managing 4 Shift Supervisors and a Warehouse Management Expert, thereby leading a 180+ FTE department consisting of Manufacturing Setup, Manufacturing Assembly, Packaging and Warehousing

  • Develop existing and new talents towards high performers

  • Achieve and maintain world-class operational performance

  • Develop and deploy an Operations strategy, improving our responsiveness to dynamic market conditions

  • Embed continuous improvement and simplification in our value chain within the structure of our Medtronic Performance System

  • Create a culture of safety- and quality-compliance and foster effective Tier management and lead problem-solving

  • Boost productivity and capacity utilization and drive process automation and digitization and promote data analysis and visualization

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • 10+ years of multi-company leadership experience in multidisciplinary manufacturing settings, with several years of proven successes in leading change as a Manufacturing Manager or Operations Manager

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Broad understanding and vision of industrial engineering, production technology, preventive maintenance, trouble shooting, integrated quality and factory-safety

  • Excellence in continuous improvement with proven track record of achieving outstanding performance in discrete manufacturing environments

  • Mandatory fluency in English (oral and writing) and Dutch language proficiency (nice to have)

  • Well-developed coaching skills and comfortable with applying modern leadership techniques, as well as strong project leadership expertise and outstanding documenting-, reporting- and presenting skills

  • Working expertise in and / or strong affinity with highly regulated, systems-structured industries, like medical devices, pharma, food, automotive

  • Lean Six Sigma black belt certification would be desirable option, perhaps even real-life experience in Performance Management System rollouts and some international working experience
