Boeing Space and Mission Systems is seeking highly motivated and experienced Senior Systems Engineering Managers to lead a team of systems engineers for multiple proprietary programs in Kent, WA . As a successful candidate, you will manage employees performing activities with multiple technical/ engineering disciplines. You must be willing to stretch beyond your comfort zone and to take intelligent risks to achieve objectives. The position is best suited to individuals who are self-starters, highly motivated, work well in fast paced multi-discipline team environments, and able to provide frequent management decisions for the best interest of the business.

The position requires the ability to plan and staff systems engineers for multiple proprietary programs, anticipate staffing demands, and collaborate across large organizations and across multiple sites for optimal resource allocations and personnel development. The position requires the ability to develop, scale and drive MBSE practices across the organization and work with enterprise leaders on MBSE solution kits. This manager requires domain knowledge in space systems and Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) experience. Other key capabilities include clear and concise, written, and oral communication of complex subjects to Boeing leadership and at all levels of customer engagement.

The position also requires the ability to lead a program team to execute systems engineering statement of work (SOW) to further the development of complex space systems for unique, challenging missions. Specific SOW includes the development of system architecture, system requirements, verification plans, ICD development, test bed definition and integration of multiple systems as part of the validation method. Additionally, the SOW will culminate with orbit test and ultimately the handover of a system to an operator.

Finally, the assignment also includes earned value management, proposal development, scheduling, and management of daily priorities. The position also involves facility & asset requirements development across multiple sites and integrated product teams (IPTs). This will involve interaction with counterparts across the program and from multiple government agencies who represent the customer program office, subcontractors, user groups, including government oversight contractors.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Systems Engineering.

  • Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures, and sets operational goals.

  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports as well as provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.

  • Proposal management and development and must have a strong understanding of the Government System Acquisition Process as well as Boeing’s Integrated Business Acquisition Process.

  • Understand the working environment of Special Access Programs to include facilities, infrastructure, and staff.

  • Manages program cost and schedule commitments.

  • Performs cost account management duties.

  • Lead efforts to define and execute implementation plans, as well as negotiate and build consensus across a diverse team of assigned personnel.

  • Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers, and leads process improvements.

  • Manages, develops, and motivates employees.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams.

  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Integration & Test (SEIT).

  • 3+ years of management experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • A current Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) or TS/SCI clearance.

  • Experience in Satellite or Space Programs.

  • Experience interfacing with suppliers.

  • Experience interfacing with senior and executive leadership.

  • 5+ years as a first line manager.

  • 10+ years of experience leading technical teams.

  • 10+ years of SEIT experience.
