Montana-Dakota Utilities Supervisor, Accounting & Finance in Kennewick, Washington

Description Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day-to-day work routine for self and others. Responsible for supervising, planning, directing, implementing, administering, reporting, and controlling the accounting and finance functions. This includes establishing department goals, setting individual objectives for staff, applying new and maintaining existing accounting rules, reviewing and approving transactions, preparing reports, and maintaining accounting related policies and procedures. Manages activities which may include but are not limited to the development and administration of Company's monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, annual O&M budget, operating plan and five-year financial forecast. Ensures the compliance of new and existing generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), SEC, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and FERC requirements, as well as other accounting pronouncements. Manages the enhancement of existing computerized accounting information systems and assists in the development of future accounting information systems. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business; and Five years' experience in accounting; and Prior supervisory or leadership experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access. Required to maintain a valid driver's license. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Certified Public Accountant and experience with regulatory, income tax, and financial reporting. Seven years' experience in accounting and finance. Two years' supervisory experience. JOB RESPONSIBILTIES Supervises the accumulation, verification, reconciliation, analysis, and review of day-to-day general ledger accounting transactions. Supervises the preparation of reports, filings and data requests for internal and external customers including, but not limited to, annual regulatory reports, rate cases, financial, operational or tax audits, quarterly O&M expense analyses and annual financial filings. Implements and directs accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley to ensure the accurate recording and integrity of company transactions. Supervises the coordination, compilation and administration of the company's annual O&M budget, operating plan and five-year financial forecasts. Ensures compliance with SEC requirements and GAAP, including new and existing SEC and FASB requirements, and other accounting pronouncements, as well as FERC reporting requirements. Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
