Merck Data Center Services Planner (Hybrid - NJ) in Kenilworth, New Jersey

Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Director, Data Center Engineering, the DC Services Planner is responsible for coordinating all ITE installations, growth, and decommissions in the global data centers and local computer rooms globally. The DC Services Planner is responsible for liaising with IHOME Relationship Managers and Data Center Engineers to identify demand requirements, solutioning, and prioritizations, and Smart Hands for implementation.

The DC Services Planner will be focused on infrastructure space planning, power distribution, ethernet and fiberoptic cabling, IP address management, and deploying broader hosting infrastructure such as IT cabinets and rack power systems via the enterprise Data Center Infrastructure Management system, Sunbird. This person will closely collaborate with other ITHOME teams, global and local Facilities teams, Divisional IT teams, and Global Compute, Storage, and Network teams across the three our Company IT Hubs located in the US, EMEA and JPAC.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Integrate with site and global teams to act as IT demand coordinator to properly allocate hosting infrastructure resources, such as space, power, and cabling.

  • Virtually plan IT infrastructure demand and create required workflows via Sunbird Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) system.

  • Manage workflow via ServiceNow and Sunbird ticketing system.

  • Develop and maintain supporting documentation such as Job Aids and Work Instructions for Smart Hands.

  • Work closely with all stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of projects.

  • Proactively manage the quality of data contained in Sunbird DCIM and ServiceNow CMDB.

  • Manage processes to onboard and offboard sites in Sunbird DCIM as our company portfolio changes over time.

  • Maintain effective relationships with vendors and suppliers ensuring effective, high-quality delivery and appropriate cost management.

  • Be a backup Data Center Planner for sites assigned as Secondary responsibilities.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • High School Diploma

Required Experience:

  • Sunbird DCIM experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years data center and colocation solution delivery supporting 24/7/365 mission critical services.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong team member.

  • Prior experience with and understanding of large enterprise critical facility data center design.

  • Understanding of structured cabling systems, network and connectivity standards, power resiliency, and hardware installation.

  • Ability to adapt to changing technology environments.

  • Understanding of ITIL processes, compliance and quality programs, audits and physical security.

  • Ability to coordinate large scale deployments and develop and improve processes.

  • Ability to develop relationships with people in diverse global geographies. This includes company employees, external partners and vendors.

  • Ability to resolve problems in high-stress, high-visibility situations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Data Center Certifications such as CDCDP, DCDC, or equivalent are desirable.

  • Industry technical certifications in EMC, Cisco or VMware are desirable.

  • PMP and ITIL Certifications or equivalent are desirable.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Expected salary range:

$83,100.00 - $130,900.00
