Position Summary

The Materials Estimator is responsible for plant level costing and control related to the materials of a home build, bill of material audits, cost analysis, New Base and Option pricing and ECO's (Engineering Change Orders).

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, audit and review drawings and specifications as related to costing of materials

  • Prepare detailed build of material cost estimates for our modular construction projects, including material, labor, and equipment, etc.

  • Present completed estimates to related departments in an organized, detailed and clear manner;

  • Work with related departments as related to the costing component of the build;

  • Assist and provide input into design of builds as related to costing.

  • Review and interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine theBills of Materials (BOM) are accurate and up to date.

  • Review BOM's (build of materials) to ensure they reflect the latest manufacturing practices.

  • Analyze actual labor, material, and overhead cost against Standard/Budget. Research and explain variances. Report this information monthly or as needed.

  • Work within the various departments related to the costing and building of homes.

  • Determine pricing and report it.

  • Maintain and update existing estimating processes.

  • Manage/prepare/track ECO's (Engineering change orders)

  • Additional responsibilities per management.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials and methods

  • Basic experience with costing and exposure to manufacturing departments

  • Proven work experience in construction

  • Strong computer skills

  • Excellent mathematical skills with attention to detail

  • Practical experience with accounting software (insert our systems) an asset

  • Able to quickly learn and adapt to new software and processes

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Works well in a team environment and with upper management

  • High level of critical thinking and logical analysis

  • Good organizational and time management skills

  • Able to work well under pressure and meet all deadlines

  • Always keeps the highest standards of compliance and confidentiality
