Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist with a strong experience in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and possess excellent patient interaction skills.
Responsibilities
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Properly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods in a clear and courteous manner.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperature and procedures to maintain integrity.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department training sessions.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in blood draws and phlebotomy.
At least 6 months of experience in phlebotomy.
Experience with straight needles (rarely use butterfly needles).
Ability to work independently.
Experience with centrifuging specimens.
Knowledge of blood pressure measurements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
GED or High School Diploma.
Phlebotomy experience in high volume patient service centers or oncology centers.
Ability to adapt and deal with different patient personalities.
Experience with difficult sticks.
Work Environment
The work sites are located in Kearny, New Jersey. The working hours are Monday to Friday from 7am to 12pm and Saturday from 9am to 7pm. The back area is designated for processing, which includes centrifuging, processing SPM, and entering data into the system to be sent to the main lab electronically. The role requires someone who can keep up with a high volume and fast pace, and who can maintain a positive energy to handle patients going through challenging situations. There is no certification required for this phlebotomy position.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00
