SCHEDULE Multiple Shifts Available: Day, Evening, Night (whatever is applicable) Must be available Sunday to Saturday with rotating weekends. Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs. [[HIRING RANGE [[Phlebotomist: $19.50 to $24.27 hourly [[Phlebotomist Certified: $20.50 to $25.54 hourly [Actual pay commensurate with experience [Paid on-island training provided JOB SUMMARY Performs laboratory functions under the supervision of the Medical Technologist or Lab Manager. Collects blood from patients, checks for specimen integrity and assumes responsibility of the safety and comfort of the patients, following safety standards and infection control practices.   1. Listed below are the major duties and responsibilities of this position in order of importance. Essential job functions are identified with an *.
  2. Performs collections from patients by venipuncture, finger sticks or other skin puncture techniques for routine, timed and stat orders. Services units, such as, Emergency Department, Cancer Center, Pediatric, Behavior Health/Psych, Ancillary, Clinic, etc. (60%)
    1. Accurately identifies patients and collects specimens indicated in the orders placed by authorized orderers.
    2. Accurately labels specimens and verifies specimen integrity.
    3. Processes electronic and paper orders for laboratory services.
    4. Prepares written documentation and submits incident reports as required by the department for laboratory testing and event reporting.
    5. Processes specimens for analysis, to include centrifuging and aliquoting.
    6. Distributes specimens to proper areas of the laboratory.
    7. Reports laboratory values requiring notification to units and assists with add-ons.
    8. Coordinates draws and assignments for the shift.
    9. Services outpatients as needed.
  3. Accessions laboratory test requests, including keying patient demographics into the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Performs accessioning of specimen orders. (30%)*
    1. Obtains and/or verifies pertinent patient information for laboratory testing and/or billing purposes.
    2. Verifies information on requisitions for accuracy; obtains information as needed to ensure completeness.
    3. Enters specimen information into Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
    4. Orders Test in Question (TIQs).
  4. Additional responsibilities, supports laboratory and hospital operations. (10%)
    1. Performs other collections as required.
