DESCRIPTION
Key Responsibilities:
Investigate Value Package Introduction (VPI) program team or field-based issues, understand causal mechanisms, and recommend appropriate actions to resolve product issues from a design perspective.
Support the execution of processes like Critical Design Decisions, System Design and Validation Consideration Checklist, Design Review, and use of tools such as iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, and ANSYS Workbench to ensure high-quality design decisions and refinement.
Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-discipline technical experts and senior designers to communicate design intent via comprehensive Design Review packages.
Assist in decision-making processes for concept selection, optimization, and design specifications, ensuring alignment with customer and product needs.
Own problem resolution for moderately complex components, systems, or subsystems, progressively handling more complex issues as experience grows.
Provide independent execution of established work processes while continuously developing knowledge of technology and products.
Meet functional Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Engage with vendors to develop and validate designs for form, fit, function, and manufacturing feasibility.
Support operations on manufacturing and quality issues, including involvement in In-process validations when required.
Contribute to engineering process improvements and ensure adherence to ISO TS/IATF 16949 processes and standards.
Work with CAD, PDM, and ERP systems while interacting with cross-functional teams (CFT).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related STEM field, or equivalent experience.
Licenses/Certifications: Licensing may be required for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Competencies:
Cross-Functional Design Integration: Effectively translates stakeholder requirements into virtual designs and communicates design capabilities across cross-functional teams.
Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis: Proficient in creating Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models and conducting system-level analyses, including Dimensional Variation Analysis (DVA) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Mechanical Design of Systems: Ability to design robust mechanical systems by considering lifecycle stages, customer requirements, and operating environments.
Mechanical Design Specification: Develop clear and concise specifications, including solid models, engineering bills of materials (BOMs), and detailed drawings, ensuring alignment with standards.
Product Function Modeling & Analysis: Utilize computational tools to model and predict product function and performance at the system, subsystem, and component levels.
Product Platform Planning & Architecting: Contribute to the development of product architectures, ensuring alignment with market needs and performing trade-off analysis.
System Requirements Engineering: Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements and establish acceptance criteria throughout the system lifecycle.
Product Problem Solving: Use structured problem-solving processes to identify root causes and implement effective solutions that improve product quality and reliability.
Product Failure Mode Avoidance: Proactively mitigate potential failure modes to improve the reliability and quality of products.
Product Configuration and Change Management: Manage product configurations and control changes throughout the product lifecycle.
Systems Thinking: Analyze the interactions and integration of system elements to predict product behavior and refine designs to meet desired outcomes.
Technical Documentation: Prepare clear and comprehensive technical documentation for effective knowledge transfer and continuous learning.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Required: 2 to 6 years of work experience in vehicle foundation "brakes" product design, preferably in commercial vehicle brake systems.
Preferred: Experience with casting part design, development, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
Additional Skills: Knowledge of MS Office and CAD tools (preferably CREO) is preferred.
Skills:
CAD and Design Tools: Proficiency in CREO, ANSYS Workbench, and related CAD tools.
Problem Solving: Ability to identify and resolve design and product issues using data-driven solutions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong teamwork skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and vendors.
