Burns & McDonnell Staff Electrical Engineer – Food & Beverage (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description A Staff Electrical Engineer will lead and execute the Electrical Engineering design activities for minor to major scale EPC projects within our world class Food & Beverage team. The responsibilities of a Staff Electrical Engineer include leading the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. In addition to, collaborating with our team members on the project team to complete the project.Perform electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Modify and review production construction drawings for a variety of projects in the Food and Consumer products industry.

  • Design electrical systems for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the lead engineer and the project managers.

  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.

  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.

  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.

  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of the process and facility.

  • Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.

  • Provide mentorship for less experience engineers that are a part of the team

  • Preform field investigation in existing facility and work with the design and construction team to develop and find solutions on complex projects.

  • Electrical design deliverables include developing electrical one-lines, power and lighting plans, electrical site plans, grounding plans, electrical hazardous classification plans, electrical equipment list, cable schedules, and electrical specifications.

  • Electrical design activitis include creating electrical models, load flow calculations, grounding calculations, lighting level calculations, raceway calculations, short circuit and arc flash studies, and more.

  • This position will be accountable for schedule, budget and making trips to job sites to survey and support existing installations and startups (travel about 30%).

  • All other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.

  • 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.

  • PE license preferred.

  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to travel.
