Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB), located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $4,434 - $5,600/Mon.

DUTIES: Contributes to research and applications of social-ecological assessments of nearshore ecosystems in Hawaii as part of the Hawaii Monitoring and Reporting Collaborative (HIMARC). Works closely with the HIMARC team and researchers and collaborators from HIMARC: The State of Hawaii Division of Aquatic Resources, The Nature Conservancy, NOAA Fisheries, The University of Hawaii, and the National Park Service among others to translate science to policy. Contributes to multiple geospatial analyses and generation of map products that will contribute to spatial management design and evaluation for nearshore reef areas.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION Masters Degree from an accredited college or university

in Biology or Marine Science field (Bachelors Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Geospatial Sciences, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Marine Sciences, or related field and an additional two (2) years of experience may substitute for a Masters Degree.).

EXPERIENCE Three to five (3-5) years of experience in geospatial data science in a research setting. Experience must include working with geospatial data in ESRI software and in the R programming language, organizing and stewarding geospatial data, and visualizing geospatial data in multiple formats (e.g., static and interactive).

KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing, database design, and applications to resource management.

ABILITIES and SKILLS Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team and with external collaborators. Ability to understand and work towards overarching program goals. Ability to produce quality and detail-oriented work efficiently. Interest and willingness to abide by and contribute to the Donovan Lab Code of Conduct. Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS Ability and willingness to travel between islands within Hawaii for short (one-day) or longer periods.
