Job Description: Corporate Director of Safety Primary Function: The Corporate Director of Safety will plan, develop, coordinate, and supervise corporate safety, health, and environmental protection functions for Abhe & Svoboda Inc. Location and Reporting: This position requires working out of our headquarters in Jordan, MN and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer. Key Responsibilities: Safety Strategy and Leadership: Develop and execute a strategic safety plan aligned with company goals and regulatory requirements. Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the safety team and operational staff. Promote a culture that values safety throughout the organization. Undertake additional responsibilities as directed by corporate executives to support organizational goals and objectives. Safety Program Development and Implementation: Develop and maintain a comprehensive corporate safety manual. Provide administrative and technical direction, ensuring updates on all corporate safety and health programs, procedures, and policies. Conduct annual supervisor/manager and on-site safety training as required to maintain high safety awareness. Organize and implement safety programs for new projects, including site-specific training and post-accident alcohol and drug testing. Assist division, project, and department management in ensuring compliance with safety, accident, and fire programs, procedures, and policies. Coordinate new job site and annual updates to mandatory federal, state, local, and project-specific postings. Prepare professionally crafted safety-related documents for Estimators and Project Managers during bid and contract preparations. Review safety documentation and reports for accuracy and completeness; ensure timely submission to federal and state agencies and insurance carriers. Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with all federal, state, and local safety regulations applicable to the industrial coatings industry. Ensure all company operations and policies comply with relevant safety standards and guidelines. Ensure our Drug and Alcohol policies remain updated in the employee handbook and other manuals and include state addendums. Perform periodic job site inspections, prepare reports, and ensure prompt resolution of any identified concerns. Manage Site Safety Officers to ensure consistent adherence to safety protocols. To uphold a safe working environment, foster productive relationships with various state and federal agencies (e.g., DOT, USACE). Risk Management and Incident Management and Investigation: Administer the Worker s Compensation program for the company, ensuring efficient claims management and proactive safety measures. Thoroughly investigate all injury and property damage incidents, serving as the primary liaison with employees, insurance providers, and legal representatives. Represent the company during all Federal or State safety-related inspections (e.g., OSHA). Safety Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish key safety performance metrics and benchmarks. Monitor safety performance across all projects and locations. Prepare and present safety reports to senior management. In collaboration with the current chair, oversee the company safety committee, develop an annual safety budget, and ensure adherence to budgetary constraints. Provide technical and administrative direction to on-site safety and first aid personnel, including staffing and personnel administration activities. Establish and monitor annual safety/project safety budgets. Establish and maintain vendor relationships to procure, distribute, and maintain safety equipment efficiently. Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety practices, procedures, and technologies. Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends in safety management Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience Minimum of Bachelor s degree in Occupational Safety/Health or equivalent. CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification is required. Extensive experience in heavy construction, preferably with at least eight years in construction safety management. Thorough understanding of 29 CFR 1926, EM 385-1-1, and familiarity with state OSHA programs. Proven track record of successfully implementing safety programs and driving cultural change. Demonstrates agility based on the size and nature of the company's backlog. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels. Proficient in and self-reliant on the technology required to perform duties. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of maintaining composure in critical situations. Additional Requirements: Ability to travel to various job sites as needed. Strong commitment to promoting a safe and healthy work environment. Experience working with diverse teams and contractors. Ability to pass Workwell test, physical and meet minimum lifting requirements Ability to pass drug and background test Comments: Develops safety policies and programs that are integral to company-wide operations, objectives, and profitability, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment across all corporate operating units.
