The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Home is to primarily serve the Veterans’ population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative service in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.

This position is located in the Housekeeping Department of the SW Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana.

Full-time appointments are available. The Food Service Specialist 1 position pays $10.00 (base pay) per hour plus $2.00 per hour physically worked the Food Service Specialist 2 pays $10.70 (base pay) per hour plus $2.00 per hour physically worked and the Food Service Specialist 3 pays $12.25 (base pay) per hour plus $2.00 per hour physically worked.

No specialized experience or training is required.

Differs from Food Service Specialist 2 by the type of supervision received and the independence of action.

Examples of Work

Prepares salads; cuts desserts; makes tea, jello, and sandwiches; and fills salt and peppershakers prior to mealtime.

Washes, chops, and cuts vegetables; opens cans and assists food preparation specialists in preparing foods prior to cooking.

Measures and assembles ingredients.

Washes dishes and pots.

Performs duties that involve the cleaning and sanitation of the food service area.

Prepares trays and special formulas for special diets.

Gathers materials necessary for dough making.

Assists in mixing, kneading, and preparing breads, rolls, biscuits, cakes, etc.
