Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 3rd grade student. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication and access to education for the student.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpretation: Convert spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, school meetings, and extracurricular activities.
Collaboration: Work closely with teachers and other school staff to ensure the student understands and follows classroom instructions.
Adaptation: Tailor interpretation methods to fit the individual student’s learning style and needs.
Support: Assist the student with understanding academic content, social interactions, and daily activities.
Cultural Mediation: Provide insights into cultural references and nuances for both hearing and Deaf cultures.
IEP Participation: Attend the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to provide input on communication abilities and needs.
Professionalism: Maintain confidentiality, follow ethical guidelines, and stay updated on new sign language trends and teaching methods.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to adapt to various learning styles and needs
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards
EIPA test score of 3.5 or higher
AA or AAS in interpreting
