Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Neuropathologist, the individual works cooperatively with research staff including physicians, research scientists, research fellows and students in Neurohistology and related labs. Contributes to and provides technical support for research projects by accurately processing human and animal tissues including brains and spinal cords, preparing tissue slides, and performing routine and special staining techniques for review by principal investigators and other research staff. Performs immunohistochemical studies including developing of protocols with research antibodies from a range of animal species. Performs reagent preparation, routine maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment including tissue processors, slide stainers and cover slippers.
Candidates must live within driving distance of Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications
EDUCATION : Associates degree and/or Bachelor's degree (Biology/Science related degree) required.
EXPERIENCE : One year of experience preferred. Must have completed an accredited Histology training program. COMPETENCY: JOB KNOWLEDGE: Working knowledge of the methods, instrumentation, and principles of all routine immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, special stain, electron microscopy and frozen section procedures is required.
ADDL CONSIDERATIONS: Must be able to work irregular hours (rotating shifts) and evenings upon occasion. Clinical Laboratory Technologist (specialty Histology) Florida licensure HT (ASCP) and/or HTL (ASCP) national certification
Valid Florida Drivers License to be able to cover frozen section and on call transplant procedures.

$29.21 - $43.87/ hour; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended

The hours may vary based on workload but typically fall within the lab’s hours of operation: Mon-Fri 7am-6pm.
