American Lighting and Signalization (ALS) provides street lighting and traffic signalization construction, maintenance, and emergency response services in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. Our major customers include state departments of transportation (DOTs), investor-owned and municipal utilities, commercial retail land developments, and commercial road contractors.

Job Type: Full-Time +, Non-Exempt Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour Benefits:

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Concrete Formwork: General rough carpentry tasks related to concrete forms.

  • Pouring Concrete: Pouring the concrete into the prepared forms, leveling it, and smoothing its surface.

  • Finishing: Applying various finishing techniques, such as troweling or stamping, to achieve the desired texture and appearance of the concrete surface.

  • Curing: Taking care of the freshly poured concrete to ensure it cures properly, often involving keeping it moist and protected from extreme temperatures.

  • Demolition and Removal: Concrete workers may need to remove old or damaged concrete structures before starting a new project.

  • Must be able to perform manual labor including but not limited to raking, shoveling, and hooking up pumps, installing pipe, mixing concrete, carrying materials, throwing sod, seeding, etc.

  • Repair and Patching: Fixing cracks, chips, or damaged areas in existing concrete structures.

  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Keeping tools and equipment clean and well-maintained for efficient work and longevity.

  • Following Safety Guidelines: Adhering to safety regulations and using personal protective equipment to prevent accidents and injuries.

  • Reading Blueprints: Understanding and interpreting construction drawings and plans to execute the concrete work accurately.

  • Physical Labor: Engaging in physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

  • Problem-Solving: Addressing on-site challenges and finding solutions to ensure the successful completion of concrete projects.

  • Quality Control: Ensuring the finished concrete work meets the required quality standards and specifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Experienced with concrete.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in concrete work.

Pre-Screen:

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • A Driver's License is required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work as needed.

  • 10% travel requirement.

Physical Requirements:

  • The job requires the ability to perform tasks in all areas and aspects of construction projects, including the ability to:

  • climb all types of ladders.

  • work at heights and below grade as necessary.

  • work with tools, lumber, and other materials.

  • Lift and manipulate objects weighing up to 80 lbs

Safety:

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
