Position Summary:
We're looking for a collaborative and innovative engineer to join our team as an Industry 4.0 Engineer. This role supports the C5MI Industry 4.0 capability demonstrations from initial research and development through internal product development for commercial and government customers. In this role, you'll create, customize, and deliver demonstrations in C5MI's Live Warehouse Experience Center (LWEC) centering on cyber-physical systems. You must be able to create and implement new functional and technical scenarios that are scalable, composable, and aligned with our customers' business goals. Supports C5MIs target architecture strategies and roadmaps through successful identification and implementation of prototypes and demonstrations using C5MI's digital maturity model showcasing integration of Industry 4.0 with the digital core.
Develop small prototypes and proof-of-concept models, based on a given design criterion that demonstrate interaction between physical and digital components.
Support creation and design innovative cyber-physical systems (CPS) that showcase the integration of physical devices (such as robots, sensors, and automated guided vehicles) with digital systems.
Assist software architects and engineers to integrate CPS with backend digital systems, such as business applications, databases, cloud platforms, and analytics tools.
Set up and maintain a controlled lab environment for conducting cyber-physical demonstrations through execution of playbooks and script setup and teardown documentation.
Configure hardware components, install necessary software, and troubleshoot any technical issues.
Write code including Python and JavaScript in support of cyber-physical systems.
Support integration of various sensors such as vision cameras, temperature sensors, motion detectors into the cyber-physical demonstration environment including collection, processing, and driving actions.
Follow cyber-security policy and procedures to address security risks associated with cyber-physical system by implementing encryption, access controls, an secure communication protocols.
Support delivery of prototypes and demonstrations through internal service line customer engagements.
Stay current on the latest capabilities, threats, and trends in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and operational technology (OT) to ensure mission success.
Required/Desired Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field, OR equivalent years of experience.
- Must have industry experience of 5 years.
- 2 years of demonstrated experience as a software engineer or automation controls engineer supporting operational technology solutions.
- Experience with low-code or no-code solutions such as Node-Red, Node.js, Microsoft PowerAutomate, and others. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and overall web page development would be a plus.
- Familiarity with utilizing Industry 4.0 frameworks, toolsets, modeling including Node-Red, Predix by GE, MindSphere by Siemens, and others.
- At least 1 year of experience in supporting testing of operational technology (OT) solutions, including authoring, data provisioning, execution, and remediation.
- Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
- Experience with operational technology solutions including programmable logic controller (PLC) and other industrial control systems (ICS).
- Full lifecycle implementation experience; manufacturing and warehouse experience would be a plus.
Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and systems administration.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages and software development methodologies.
- Familiarity of cloud platforms, virtualization technologies, and data management.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, resources, and meet project deadlines.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, etc.) is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams, stakeholders, and external vendors and partners.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into clear and concise language for non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to analyze technical issues, identify root causes, and propose potential solutions.
- Willingness to adapt to evolving technologies, industry trends, and business requirements.
