Temporary Motor Coach Operator

The Casual Motor Coach Operator drives for the Campus-to-Campus (C2C) program on an as-needed basis. C2C provides express motor coach service between Cornell's Ithaca and NYC campuses. Buses are equipped with a variety
of amenities. Safely operate a motor coach, and other passenger vehicles, while adhering to specified routes and schedules. Adhere to and comply with federal, state (including Article 19-A), and local traffic laws, and Cornell University policies and procedures.
Likely stressful circumstances may include extreme weather, heavy traffic, or dissatisfied and unreasonable passengers. Responsible for training new Operators when requested.

Temporary and Casual Appointments, appointment to a Temp/Casual position may be ended at any time, by either party, for any reason. Starting wage for a Temporary/Casual Motor Coach Operator is $30.00/hr.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, at least two years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites
- CDL class A or B, with air brake and passenger endorsement, and valid Federal Medical DOT certificate.
- Obtain and maintain certification in Article 19-A of NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law
- High regard for delivering excellent customer service, while representing the University with professionalism
- Safety-oriented and ability to follow applicable policies and procedures
- Knowledge of traffic laws
- Ability to use basic computer functions, e.g., email, the web, and basic interfaces
- Comfortable driving in all kinds of weather and traffic
- conditions, including in major metropolitan, urban settings; and a busy college campus with large numbers of pedestrians and cyclists
- Must be able to communicate clearly with customers, management, mechanics and cleaners
- Ability to read maps and road signs. Ability to pass a DOT level physical, drug/alcohol test and Cornell random drug testing
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to sit for long periods of time, up to 10 hours
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule which will include irregular hours, late nights, overnight trips, weekends, and holidays
May not engage in activities that will compromise availability to drive in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier SafetyAdministration (FMCSA) Interstate Passenger Carrying Driver's Guide to Hours of Service.
