Position summary

The Supplier Quality Engineer shall provide quality support to production operations, ensuring the integrity of components and products purchased from sub suppliers meet engineering requirements. The individual will aggressively drive quality improvements, lead problem solving teams, coach and mentor peers, provide support to interfacing departments, ensure company standards are adhered to, and organizational goals for achieving “zero defect” performance are met without the need for unplanned support. The individual will foster cross functional support to implement process improvements and problem-solving efforts for the supply base, to focus on protecting and improving incoming product quality.

Key accountabilities

• Results for this position will be measured by internal customer satisfaction and supplier metrics.

• Leads cross functional problem-solving teams.

• Coach and mentor peers.

• Interfaces and provides support for other departments within the facility.

• Drives and champions quality improvement efforts internally and externally (supply base).

• Respond to, and fully support, company plant production by ensuring all supplier parts meet engineering requirements.

• Ensures that internal needs for Control Systems are established, communicated and met in a timely and functional manner at the supply base.

• Conduct supplier audits of Implemented Corrective Actions Plans, quality systems and overall operations.

• Provides expert analysis, guidance and support to Production/Supplier in Process Improvement activities, including effective use of Problem-Solving tools / techniques, statistical analysis and Inspection Equipment and Techniques.

• Utilizes analytical skill sets to implement root cause analysis and provide recommendations for corrective action.

• Optimizes Process Capability on critical characteristics at the supply base through effective application of statistical analysis techniques and Problem-Solving.

• Proactively work with suppliers to minimize and/or eliminate ongoing quality/performance issues.

• Report Supplier quality and performance progress/problems to company management.

What we are looking for

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering; and a combination of three years Manufacturing Engineering / Quality Assurance experience in the automotive industry.

• Must have demonstrated knowledge of at least 2 of the following: Advanced quality planning, inspection equipment and techniques, root cause failure analysis, capability studies, statistical distributions, machine and assembly processes, problem solving, team facilitation and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

• Preferred experience

• Knowledge of IATF16949:2016 preferred.

• Experience with Supplier Development a plus.

• Experience with report writing in Microsoft Word and graphical analysis in Minitab strongly preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range from $80,000 - $115,000 based on experience
