The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a dynamic and organized leader to join the Quality Milk Production Services team. In this position you will work with all four of our locations across New York State and bring cohesive leadership to the team.


The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist directors to maintain effective and uniform operations by supporting the oversight of diverse functions and processes
  • In collaboration with unit director and CVM human resources, support personnel management, including recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new unit employees.
  • Support the creation and modification of work schedules
  • Serve as unit lead for applicable systems, liaise with AHDC systems analyst, VMIT, and vendors as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate program budget, accounts, and expenditures; research and advise on purchase requests and vendors; oversee inventories and ordering.
  • Coordinate the promotion of unit services in collaboration with AHDC Marketing team.
  • Perform project management for the unit and for organizational initiatives as needed.
  • Facilitate communication between Ithaca and regional labs and help to standardize workflows

Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in animal or laboratory science, 2-4 years experience working in a large animal veterinary setting or dairy production or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate effectively and coordinate laboratory operations in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent self-management practices and organizational skills
  • Excellent and demonstrated communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible to the needs of the organization
  • Experience delivering critical feedback in a respectful and constructive manner.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with managing programs
  • Willingness to explore and become proficient with AI technology and tools
  • Strong science background with an understanding of diagnostic bacteriology or experience in procedures for assessing milk quality, mastitis screening or diagnosis
  • Experience in dairy management

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • This position requires regular travel to our three regional laboratories
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.

Who We Are:

The Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) is a high visibility and high-volume veterinary diagnostic laboratory that promotes the health, productivity, and welfare of food-and fiber-producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and wildlife populations. Through its comprehensive veterinary diagnostic services, the AHDC detects animal diseases and supports animal and public health, promotes environmental stewardship, and fosters economic growth.


Quality Milk Production Services (QMPS), a program within the AHDC, serves the dairy industry of New York State by promoting the production of high-quality milk through the control and prevention of mastitis, prudent use of antimicrobials, and implementation of good farming practices. QMPS meets the needs of the dairy industry through an integrated program of Field Services, Laboratory Services, Educational Programs and Research, all provided by four locations across the state (Canton, Cobleskill, Ithaca, Warsaw).
