Our Team:


The Budget and Finance Team within the SC Johnson College of Business supports strategic and transactional financial operations across our three schools, our central college units, and the Statler Hotel across our two campuses in Ithaca and NYC. This team consists of individuals who take a progressive approach to financial planning and reporting, utilizing data-driven techniques and tools to support our College's mission and enhance our organizational effectiveness.

Under the general direction of the Budget & Finance Manager and as a highly engaged and collaborative member of the greater finance team, this position works closely with key stakeholders within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and University Central to provide financial reporting and analysis supporting various budgeting, reporting, and analysis activities.


This position will serve as an expert in nonacademic personnel/compensation planning. The incumbent will work closely with the Budget & Finance Manager, Human Resources, and Leadership, to provide financial support as it relates to nonacademic staff personnel management and compensation planning. This includes, but is not limited to collaborating, providing budgetary guidance and suggestions, reporting, academic staffing analysis, and various other tasks. This position will serve as the primary Compensation Finance Partner in Workday to manage the Workday queue, monitoring/updating all nonacademic staff personnel appointments, and ensuring timely, accurate costing of salaries and other compensation payments.


The Associate Financial Analyst will stay current in Cornell University policies and procedures related to finance, participate in the annual budget process and reforecast, attend various meetings and functions, and also engage in professional development activities, while also providing backup support to other team members and the Budget and Finance Manager.


Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Associate's degree in business, finance, accounting or other related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; 2 - 4 years of experience with financial analysis, reporting, and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of financial and data management systems, including but not limited to Kuali Financial Systems, Oracle BI, Workday, Longview and other relevant applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, Word, Power Point).
  • High attention to detail, able to work independently and prioritize multiple deliverables in a changing environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiatives and to embrace uncertainties.
  • Ability to work effective as part of a team while maintaining confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience at a university.
  • Experience with human resources and compensation processes, policies, and law.
