Ithaca College ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - FILM PRODUCTION in Ithaca, New York

The Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College is currently accepting applications for a temporary, full time, 9-month teaching position in film production, with experience in both 16mm and digital film production. Appointment begins August 16, 2024. The successful applicant will have some undergraduate teaching experience and will teach assigned classes in Introduction to Film Production, as well as other courses in applicant’s area of expertise and in guiding undergraduates in the use of digital and celluloid cameras, digital audio recording, and non-linear editing using the Adobe Creative Suite.

We are particularly interested in teachers with an expertise in the following competencies:

  • Expertise in 16mm film production using Bolex and Aaton cameras.

  • Extensive experience with all editing software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, ProTools, and Adobe After FX.

  • Knowledge of both analog and digital production and post-production workflows including RAW proxies, DIT, inter-negative process, DCP production, dissemination in multiple formats on multiple platforms.

  • Ability to teach foundation level courses that cover all aspects of film production in celluloid and digital formats through image composition, location audio recording, and concept/story development.

The ideal candidate will combine experience in film/video production and a strong understanding of and engagement with the history and theory of cinema. Primary responsibilities will focus on teaching courses within the curriculum at the introductory and intermediate level in hands-on film/video production classes as well as advanced courses in the applicant’s areas of expertise. The ideal candidate will be equipped to create an environment centered on active student learning and will maintain a high level of teaching effectiveness.

Qualifications: An M.F.A. in the area of media production or a Master’s degree plus significant professional experience is required. We prefer candidates who have a record of successful college teaching and who share our commitment to professional preparation within the context of an interdisciplinary and immersive liberal and fine arts education.
