THE ROLE AND THE COMPANY

Heidelberg Materials provides the materials to build our future. Our future is sustainable. Our future is digital. And it goes way beyond cement, aggregates and ready-mixed concrete. Heidelberg Materials North America, previously known as Lehigh Hanson, operates more than 450 locations with approximately 9,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada.

Heidelberg Materials seeks to future proof its cement operations with increased digitization and operational capability. The overarching goal is to centralize operations, and to achieve operational excellence. For this purpose, it is establishing the Heidelberg Materials Remote Optimization Center (HROC) in its headquarters in Irving, Texas.

As an HROC Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise in quality control to multiple cement plant sites within a designated region. Based in a central location remote to the plants, you will collaborate closely with plant teams to establish and maintain quality control measures, implement testing protocols, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Occasional travel to the plant sites supported will be required.

What You’ll Get to Do

  • Quality Control Measures: Support plants to establish and implement quality control measures across multiple cement plant sites to ensure compliance with quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. Develop and maintain quality control procedures, work instructions, and inspection protocols.

  • Testing and Inspection: Support plants in defining and optimizing quality testing and inspection processes to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of cement and raw materials. Coordinate and perform laboratory tests, analyze results, and communicate findings to plant teams. Ensure adherence to testing protocols and accuracy of measurements.

  • Quality Assurance Programs: Collaborate with plant teams to implement quality assurance programs, including process control systems, statistical process control (SPC), and corrective action procedures. Monitor process variables, analyze data, and initiate corrective actions to maintain product quality within specifications.

  • Root Cause Analysis: Investigate quality deviations and non-conformities, using root cause analysis techniques to identify underlying causes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective corrective and preventive actions, ensuring the resolution of quality issues.

  • Supplier Quality Management: Collaborate with procurement teams to establish and enforce quality standards for incoming raw materials and additives. Conduct supplier audits, evaluate supplier performance, and collaborate with vendors to address quality-related issues. Monitor and communicate supplier quality metrics.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret quality data, including test results, inspection records, and customer feedback. Generate reports and visualizations to communicate quality performance and trends. Provide recommendations for process improvements based on data analysis.

  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Provide training and guidance to plant personnel on quality control procedures, testing methods, and quality assurance techniques. Foster a culture of quality awareness and continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and best practices with plant teams.

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives by actively seeking opportunities to enhance quality control processes, reduce variability, and improve product quality. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement improvement projects and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
