POSITION SUMMARY:  

Serves as first line supervisor to professional staff for public outpatient programs and may be responsible for the management and oversight of the entire program area in the absence of the Program Manager or Director. Assists and makes recommendations to upper management staff for program design and implementation and for related personnel management and budgetary issues.

 

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Must meet criteria as a Child Mental Health Professional (CMHP).  Master’s degree in a mental health-related field from an accredited school who is trained and has one year of experience in the examination, evaluation and treatment of minors and their families.

  • At least two years’ previous experience working within a Community Mental Health (CMH) practice required.

  • At least one year of formal or informal supervisory experience required.

  • At least three years’ subsequent experience working with children in a mental health/human services facility.

  • Must have a current, valid professional license/certification in the State of Michigan.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • R e s pon s i b l e for administration of all outpatient programs and supervision of corresponding program staff.

  • A ss i s t Partner D i s tr i c t i n d e s i g n and implementation of a school based mental health education and service delivery model.

  • Acts as f i r s t line supervisor to professional staff for the entire service site and coordinates operation with Support Services Supervisor. Assumes responsibility of facility in absence of Program Manager or Director.

  • A ss i s t and make recommendations to upper-management staff for program design and implementation and for related personnel management and budgetary issues.

  • E x e r c i s e i nd e p e nd e n t j udg m e n t a nd substantial autonomy.

  • Wo r ks c o l l a bo r a t i v e l y with other management staff within site, team and within the agency.

  • H i r e s , tr a i n s , develops, schedules activities, evaluates and supervises the work of professional and paraprofessional personnel engaged in direct services work with clients. Recommends termination of assigned staff.

  • H a nd l e d i s c i p li n a ry m a tters and ensure staff and programmatic compliance with Clinic policies/procedures.

  • W o r k with support services staff to ensure program needs are met.

  • A s s i s t    in   designing/implementing   new   programs under   supervision   of Program

    Manager and Director.

  • P a rt i c i p a t e i n a nd contribute to staff case reviews and staff training.

  • Act as liaison to external stakeholders (e.g.  service organizations, referral sources, funding, and regulatory bodies).

  • P a rt i c i p a t e i n p ub li c r e l a t i o n s / m a rk e t i ng a c t i v i t i e s as needed.

  • P a rt i c i p a t e i n agency m ee t i ng s , tr a i n i ng, a nd other functions as needed or requested.

  • W o r k cooperatively and responsibly as a member of a team with department staff, supervisor and other SFS colleagues.

  • A s s i s t in finding and directing clients in case of an emergency such as a fire or tornado.

  • Cooperate i n any investigation related to personnel, licensing, accreditation, or other circumstances.

  • P e r f o r m other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management or required by the team.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Substantial clinical knowledge and experience related to mental health and substance abuse.

  • Knowledge of how mental health professionals and their specific expertise contribute to mental health service delivery.

  • Demonstrated ability to set and meet outcome objectives.

  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with all program staff and support services personnel.

  • Ability to plan and organize time effectively.

  • Ability to assist families in crisis.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders.

  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

  • Must have a commitment to the welfare of the children and families the program serves and to the delivery of quality services.

  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions, especially during crisis situations.

  • Must have a working knowledge of all SFS programs.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, function independently and demonstrate good follow through.

  • Ability to work positively and productively as a member of a team with colleagues, supervisors, and agency staff.

  • Knowledge of community mental health treatment programs and their continuum of care.

  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices including personnel and systems management.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.

  • Must be computer literate.

  • Capacity for developing autonomy and leadership in supervisees.

  • Ability and willingness to work with all members of the community regardless of race, age, sex and cultural or ethnic background.

  • Skills working tactfully with others and flexibility in the assumption of responsibilities.

    LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Valid driver’s license and / or reliable transportation.
