Come join our Venice Family Clinic as a Food Program Health Educator and make a positive difference in others' lives. In this position, you will work within a multi-disciplinary health care team to deliver comprehensive services for patients who need resources related to food and nutrition in a primary care setting. Acting as the primary contact person for the program, the Healthy Food Program Health Educator is responsible for:

  • Assessment, development, coordination, and implementation of food security programming and resources tailored to the needs of the patient and the patient's family served at the Venice Family Clinic.

  • Assisting and providing support of the food security program, which includes working with internal and external agencies.

  • Providing guidance for and implementation of food distribution events as well research and maintaining resources of food programs in the area.

  • Providing patient education related to nutrition, increasing patients chances for success in all aspects of life.

  • Managing the Teaching Kitchen and food carts, providing food demonstrations and volunteers needed to conduct food demonstrations.

  • Assisting with the Food Pharmacy and the Free Food Market, which includes set up and takedown of events, packing food for distribution, distributing food, participant intake, and overseeing volunteers to assist in the food distribution events.

  • Travel between clinics and community organizations to conduct health education programs, presentation, services, outreach, and other related activities.

Salary offers are determined based on various factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, and equity. The full salary range for this position is $28.78-$59.34 hourly. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is about $28.78 - $29.00 Hourly.Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition or related field OR a Bachelor's degree in Health or a related field and at two years of experience providing health education services in a public health or primary health care organization.

  • Working knowledge of health education issues and programs including nutrition, lifestyle and behavioral issues.

  • Bilingual language skills in Spanish.

  • Working knowledge of chronic diseases and strategies to improve patient adherence to medical treatment plans.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, and work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of people of various educational and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Excellent organizational skills and proficiency in using Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Access.

  • Ability to travel between clinics and community organizations.

  • Ability to conduct outreach and recruitment for health education classes on nutrition and lifestyle changes.
