Summary The Beneficiary Transportation Assistant works as part of the Beneficiary Travel Section of HAS at the Indianapolis VAMC. The incumbent's main duties are to provide patient program support, program administration, administrative support, excellent customer service to all staff and veterans and perform other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities Duties include but not limited too: The Bene travel program provides transportation at government expense to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities and other places for the purpose of examination, treatment or care. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating work operation, providing coverage and assuring that the work is completed in a timely manner. The incumbent oversees the processes for determining eligibility for beneficiary travel, processing requests for reimbursement for travel, maintaining fund control points within the travel office. Completes authorized travel reimbursement voucher for veterans who are eligible to receive travel funds by mileage, actual expenses, bus fare, etc. by utilizing the Veterans Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) and the Benetravel Self Service System (BTSSS) Digital Signature Checkout (DSCx). Makes eligibility determination for Beneficiary Travel based on patient data and regulations. Informs patient of Beneficiary Travel criteria and eligibility. Submits documents electronically for payment utilizing appropriate software. Reviews requests for reimbursement of travel costs for assuring compliance with regulations and procedures, completeness, accuracy, internal consistency and agreement with basic authorization and reconciles vouchers against authorizations for accuracy prior to preparing certifications for payment. Responsible for determining method of payment for authorized and unauthorized ambulance claims submitted for consideration; investigates authorizations, orders and/or utilizes Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) to review medical records and orders the appropriate mode of special transportation and process claims using the eCams software. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/27/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: For a GS 6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Preferred: Transportation preferred experience. CPRS and hospital information on clinic locations, managing veteran appointments, customer service skills, VA computer systems knowledge. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized experience at the GS-06 level is defined as: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 5, establishing employees in the system, building approval chain, complete online bookings, and coordinates training. Skills in both oral and written communication; Office automation abilities to include knowledge of email systems, MS Office, spreadsheets and other equipment to prepare correspondence. There is no educational substitution at this grade level.. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
