About the role:

This is a Night Shift position covering the Central Utility Plant and related functions. Shifts are 12 hours on a 2 2 3 rotation, and shift premium pay is provided.

What you'll do:

•Follow all safety guidelines and procedures

•Maintain logs for all notable events throughout the shift

•Monitor BMS computer systems, respond to alarms as necessary

oResearch buildings- normal business hours call appropriate shop

oResearch buildings nights, weekends, and holidays, contact the on-call person after investigating

oLCC or LTC Administration buildings normal business hours call shop personnel

oLCC or LTC Administration buildings nights, weekends, and holidays call on-call personnel

oNOTE: Freezer, animal area, and Clinical Diagnostic Labs’ alarms require immediate response

oStart and stop air handlers, water pump skids, or otherwise assist shops with BMS needs

•Start and Stop Machinery and Monitor UMS

oChillers (Steam driven & Electric driven)

oHeat Exchangers

oAir Compressors

oCooling Towers

oPumps

•Log Readings On All Machinery and Equipment

oMachines that are running are logged twice per shift. (Log sheet located at each machine)

oIdle machines get logged once per shift (Exception: idle air compressors get logged twice a shift)

oCooling towers are inspected once per shift, and readings logged twice per shift.

•Respond to security’s calls after hours concerning alarms and issues not on BMS or UMS

oLab alarms

oLeaks

oNoises

oOdors

•Monitor Water Treatment and de-ionized water system

oVisually inspect tote and drum levels of the chemicals that are on line

oReceive, Off-load, and Change out totes & drums as needed

oPrime pumps and fix leaks as needed

oOperate water treatment system and complete water tests and logs

oVisually inspect and log readings for EDI machines and respond to alarms. Perform minor maintenance (filter changes, adding salt to softeners, etc) as needed

•Assist maintenance as needed and complete work orders as assigned

•Perform vehicle inspections (fork truck, reach truck, Mule, etc). Inspection sheet located on each vehicle

•Perform Transformer Yard inspections

•Monitor liquid nitrogen (N2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) utility system

oReceive nitrogen delivery in person

oMonitor tank levels and confirm scheduled delivery with supplier

•Inspect all equipment in work areas and tunnels at least Bi-weekly

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 4 or more years experience in electrical systems, refrigeration and/or HVAC. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to obtain Universal CFC certification within first year.

  • Additional certification in one or more of the following: electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry or engine repair. Certifications/licenses as may be required by local or state jurisdictions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.

  • Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles and to understand operating budgets. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and/or commissions. Conducts basic financial analysis.

  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.

  • Use personal computer and / or PDA for work order system, email, ESS and training. Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook. Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs / ladders and ability to lift / carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.

  • Decisions made with thorough knowledge of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Responsible for setting own project deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and supervisor.
