Role Overview:

The Customer Service Agent position will be responsible for answering phone calls from customers reporting issues or questions regarding INDOT roadways. This position requires excellent spoken and written communication skills. Experience with computers is and typing skills are required. Daily tasks will be answering phone calls and creating cases to be sent to personnel statewide to address issues or answer questions from customers These cases will be written out based on information gathered from the customer. The ability to ask relevant questions to determine the root cause and exact location being reported is vital for this role. As time allows, this position will also process cases that are submitted through the online reporting portal. Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel are preferred. Strong communication, organizational skills, and a positive demeanor are essential.

This position is 37.5 hours a week, with 22.5 hours being in-person downtown Indianapolis. The Customer Service Agent position is a contracted position, expected to last 180 working days (approximately 6 month).

Salary:

This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $16.24 an hour. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

Location:

This position is located in INDOT’s Central Office, Indianapolis.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Compile information relative to the assigned program area.

  • Coordinate correspondence for information requests.

  • Organize and maintain current and historical files related to the program.

  • Organize program reports, applications, and maintain consultative services.

  • Maintain and organize program assets.

  • Prepare all program related training materials.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • General knowledge of the program area.

  • Basic knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining to the assigned program area and its affects upon other agency operations.

  • Ability to gather and compile program materials.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to operate effectively in a group decision-making process.

  • Tact in dealing with other agency personnel and the public.

  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles.

    Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

    This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
