Position Brand Description:
Principal Plant Engineer - HVAC / Utilities is responsible for maintaining the site’s facility infrastructure including buildings, HVAC, GMP utilities, steam, water, sewer, and other utility systems to a state of compliance. They must assure that facilities and related infrastructure are fit for use when needed, maintenance and reliability techniques are efficient and effective, and appropriate corrective and improvement actions are taken when necessary. They are also responsible for the efficient and effective management of local capital for their assets and oversight of engineering / maintenance contract resources.
Key Objectives / Deliverables
Responsible to maintain our HVAC/Utilities programs up to date with industry standards, external/internal regulatory documents, and regulatory agencies expectations. Example of these programs are, but not limited to: Room Pressure Differentials, Room Recovery Testing, HEPA Testing, Room Environmental Parameters, Asset Qualification Monitoring, Equipment Criticality Classification, Building Management System, Pest Management, Housekeeping, etc.
Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, leading safety initiatives, and working safely and accountable for supporting all HSE Corporate and Site Goals.
Understand HVAC applications in aseptic manufacturing, Utilities and GMP Utilities (WFI, Clean Steam, PCA, etc.). Monitors / trends system critical operational parameters.
An understanding of mechanical equipment used in a manufacturing environment (Pumps, motors, etc.).
Develop scope for capital projects targeted at both shorter- and longer-term needs triggered by recapitalization and/or process improvements. Act as user representative for capital projects or delivery agent for local projects.
SME on flow charts, process parameters, and HVAC/Utilities programs.
Perform system/assets qualification process monitoring - routine alarm reviews / reports / C4I.
Responsible for troubleshooting problems.
Engaged on communication to customers for system issues.
Technical leader and mentor for Sr. Specialists and for Plant Engineers.
Responsible for the evaluation of all activities that have the potential to impact the qualified state for their system(s).
Responsible for all CAPA and observation / deviation investigations and originations (e.g., root cause analysis).
Deviation Owner for assigned HVAC/Utilities Systems.
Change Control owner for applicable systems.
Participates in Process Team.
HVAC and Utility SME for audits.
Responsible for periodic reviews of systems and procedures.
Lead or participate in Verification and Qualification activities (IV / OV / PQ).
Lead or participate in capital projects for applicable HVAC and utility systems in area(s) of responsibility.
Responsible for equipment reliability issues & maintenance strategy with the objective of improvement.
Identify and drive improvement opportunities (procedural changes, upgrades, projects, etc.) associated with equipment & processes within the area.
Participate / Provide oversight in ensuring scheduled shutdowns are planned and executed effectively.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
Requires 4 years of experience with a highly technical understanding of HVAC and Utilities (including rotating equipment).
Additional Preferences:
Previous experience within the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Ability to apply statistical thinking concepts to the analysis of manufacturing.
Good interpersonal and communications skills.
Ability to work effectively in a cross - functional environment.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
Strong computer skills in a variety of software packages (SAP, Excel, JMP, etc.).
Strong problem - solving skills.
Good Business Acumen.
