    Role Overview:

    This position process and maintain BMV payroll daily functions at the Central Office. You will Prepare bi-weekly payroll maintenance and assist employees with any payroll inquiries. The accountant will work in AOS Main Frame, Alchemy and People Soft modules on a daily basis. This position will manage approximately five hundred (500) employee's service records. This position organize and manage various daily administrative duties for the department CFO, Directors and Supervisor. The employee knows the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures that may include some familiarity of other departments within the Bureau. Is sensitive to the interrelationship of both people and functions within the department. This position will also assist with our Accounts Payable division as the AP approver and Treasury/Collections floater on a as needed basis.

    Salary Statement:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00.

A Day in the Life:

  • Process and manage Payroll Data files (all employee reported timesheets hours) to AOS for our agencies (Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Bureau of Motor Vehicles Commission) on a bi-weekly time frame and Wage Verifications

  • Manage the distribution and record keeping of any received employee's court ordered Garnishments (making sure they are properly sent to AOS)

  • Management of our agencies financial payroll records and reports

  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll documentation to distribute to AOS which are not limited to (AP-63's, AS-47's, Leave Adjustments, Positive/Negative Adjustments, Pay Changes, Address and/or Tax changes) and employees accrual/usage of vacation, sick, personal, family medical, military leave & special sick time

  • Create and maintain approximately Five Hundred (500) payroll files and purge terminated employees' files

  • Process Payroll allocations in People Soft Financial, Management of all Payroll records and files in accordance with the retention schedule by State Board of Accounts

  • Coordinates office services for the Finance Division such as managing various reports, file records, office supplies and office equipment

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Two (2) years of Oracle/ People Soft Human Resources Time and Labor

  • Ability to learn Oracle/People Soft Financials Accounts Payable and General Ledger

  • Ability to gain knowledge of the principles and practices of payroll procedures and regulations according to State, Federal and Agency related guidelines

  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws, policies and procedures as they pertain to the Fair Labor Standards Act and employee compensation

  • Ability to analyze payroll submission, state forms, and reports

  • Ability respond in a professional and courteous manner in response to payroll related questions

  • Ability to organize and prioritize time sensitive daily activities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff at all levels.

  • Ability to keep personal information (i.e. employee garnishments, child support, etc) confidential.

  • Ability to identify trends and recommend improvements

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
