Governor’s Summer Intern – SPD Workforce Strategy & Performance
The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.
The Indiana State Personnel Department (INSPD) is seeking a Workforce Strategy & Performance Intern to join our agency in summer 2024. The intern will support a variety of projects including, but not limited to, refreshing competency expectations and assignments, creating a manager needs assessment, and developing skills-based talent management guidance for the human resources function of state government.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour.
A Day in the Life:
As an INSPD intern, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience with:
Clarifying competency expectations for leaders, high performers, and job functions
Facilitating and analyzing competency assessments to refresh role-based assignments
Creating a manager needs assessment to inform programming and target manager engagement
Developing and piloting skills-based talent management guidance
What You'll Need for Success:
The following skills and abilities will help you gain the most from this experience:
Basic knowledge of human resources practices related to: job descriptions, performance management, career development, and/or adult learning
Microsoft Word skills for creating and updating documents
Microsoft Excel skills for entering and analyzing data
Ability to research, analyze, categorize, and clarify information
Ability to navigate and learn how to use technology
Ability to follow job aids/guides and create forms or surveys
Ability to identify relevant information using existing resources
Ability to collect & incorporate feedback
Ability to communicate with stakeholders via email, virtual meeting, phone, and in person
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
