Defense Finance and Accounting Service Financial Technician in Indianapolis, Indiana

Duties
  • Conducts reviews involving automated process improvements to support transportation payments operations in support of all their customers. Responsible for technical systems related work in transportation pay.
  • Reviews and analyzes procedural and/or data to identify needed improvements or changes to current systems or processes.
  • Validates lines of accounting within a system and reviews unusual or difficult accounting transactions. Researches errors in the power-track and other entitlement systems.
  • Identifies trends or discrepancies within the entitlement and systems that impact obligations, pre-validations and payments to carriers and vendors.
  • Monitors the power-track cycle and monitors the electronic interfaces/entries that are rejected by systems. Keeps non-automated records in order to update the technicians to make manual corrections.

Qualifications

This position is being filled under theDirect Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defensevia delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Applicants MUST have related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree(examples include: Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related), in addition to meeting Office of Personnel Management (OPM) minimum qualification requirements.Substitution of combination of education and experience must still, in conjunction, minimally satisfy the DHA qualification requirement.

Human Resources will determine your qualifications for each entry grade level based on your interest and the additional following criteria. Combinations of education and experience may also be sufficient.

GS-06One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

GS-06: Specialized experience is defined as:Assisting with conducting reviews using automated systems involving process improvements to support customers. Assisting with detecting potential system issues and making minor corrections.

GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

GS-07: Specialized Experience is defined as:Assisting customers in identifying and resolving minor computer technical issues. Identifying discrepancies within automated systems with incorrect or missing accounting information. Reporting discrepancies to experts for correction.

Volunteer Experience:Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Education

GS-06 Substitution of Education for Experience:Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requiredwhen it is directly related to the work of the position being filled.If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply.To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education ().

GS-07 (1-grade interval) Substitution of Education for Experience:One full year of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required whenit is directly related to the work of the position being filled.Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply.To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education ().
