Description

Job Summary:

This position will assist the Engineering Department with various tasks, including data collection and label application for power system studies. Additionally, this role involves performing electrical apparatus work onsite at customer facilities, which includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs of electrical equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in power engineering studies including arc flash, labeling, short circuit coordination studies and reliability studies.

  • Gather field data for performing various engineering studies.

  • Create and modify prints and drawings in AutoCAD

  • Execution of mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment used in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.

  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.

  • Ability to assist and/or lead in substation transformer, cable, and breaker testing.

  • Participation in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.

  • Understanding of the basic purpose and function of both electromechanical and solid-state relays.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiar with industry standards such as IEEE 1584, NETA, NFPA 70, NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.

  • Knowledge of SKM Power Tools or EasyPower software is preferred but not required.

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD software is preferred but not required.

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, data entry, email, internet, and other essential software programs as introduced, with the ability to work on a computer.

  • Ability to work independently while exercising excellent judgment.

  • Ability to read one-line diagrams.

  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic components used in power distribution systems.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively respond to customer needs and concerns.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge is preferred, training will be provided.

Work Environment:

  • Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of Indianapolis, Indiana.

  • Corporate business hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm, but depending on the scope of works hours outside of business hours may be required.

  • Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations.

  • Blend of office work and customer visits is expected.

  • Able to work flexible hours including overtime, nights, weekends, and some holidays.

  • Able to work overnight, multi-day and out-of-town projects.

  • Standing, climbing, walking, lifting, carrying, and grasping are all required.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, or military experience is preferred but not required.

  • Experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning is preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to set a goal and achieve NETA II certification within 24 months of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, education verification, motor vehicle report, physical abilities test, an approved hair and urine drug screen, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must have or be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs.

  • Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 25 lbs.

  • Must be willing to obtain a company paid TWIC, OSHA 10 hour, NFPA 70-E, and CPR training.
